I cant get the saliva right. There is either too bubbles, or too much spit. How do you get the right amount of spit on the lense? Do you have to spread it out and if you do, then do you use your finger or what?

Oh man - just as I wrote that I saw some ferns... That would be right - a mere 9 days before Hubby gets home!
Though at least now I've worked it out... Kind of... Lets see if I do it again!

But the ferns aren't in 'the green light' - they're all around the edge... do those count?

Yeah! Its more of a funny pattern... To call it ferns is probably a little bit far... Its lots and lots of black dots with kind of lines inbetween them...

Hmm - not sure... I think so but I dunno... Every time I have seen that I haven't got anything on my OPK.. Like I did an OPK this morning and there was nothing.
I'm quite happy for it to stay that way - 9 days til hubby gets home so I am hoping that O is REALLY late!

:fingerscrossed: for you!
What time of the day do you test?

I have probably tested a bit early today... Normally I would use OPK's in the afternoon (4pm-5pm) and the Maybe Baby before dinner.
But this morning I was bored and felt like doing something!

I have the same probs using my Maybe baby. All I see is bubbles....
I use mine at about 6 every morning when DS hops into bed with me to have his bottle.
I have never seen ferning but I am hoping to sometime really soon!!
:fingerscrossed: for you ladies as well!

Hey everyone
What i did when i used mine is, put your tounge to the roof of your mouth and let the saliva pool there. Then i use my finger to scoop up some saliva, there should be no bubbles, and then let just a drop fall on to the middle of the slide.
Then i leave on desk until dry, it drys faster that way, when you can see the saliva is dry then check. and voila ferns or pebbles.
It took me aggges to work this out.
Best time to test tho is first thing before brekkie, but if you havent eaten or drunk anything beides water for a few hours its ok to use.
Hope this helps

Hi ladies,
I am on my 4th month of ttc with 'maybe baby'....
First thing in the morning is best as you are not supposed to have eaten or drunk anything for 3 hours (even brushing your teeth) although I have had a reading during the day b4 after food!
Put a small amout of saliva onto your finger then wipe (not dab) it onto the magnifier. Leave it on the side table for 5-10 minutes to completely dry. If it ferns around the edges and not in the middle that is still a positive reading. Black dots and lines are what you get the rest of the month.
Ferns tend to start in little bits then it is really obvious when it has ferned up. This month though I had ferns on day 6 and day 12??? Men can even fern with it so it can be a little confusing..it is just reading the amount of estrogen in your saliva once it has crystalised!
I have found that I have to wind my magnifier right to the very end, it is almost falling off, to get a clear reading or it just shows bubbles..i hadn't realised this until dh told me!
monyfelix..some women actually never fern due to a insufficient amount of estrogen...but you are still ovulating..
Good luck! :fingerscrossed:

it sounds like you are in the transitional period? Which means you have a bit of ferning, but not complete

Yes, I agree. When you have full ferning, you will not be able to mistake it. It will cover the entire lens, and you'll see really long lines, with ferns coming off them.

Chicken is right..... trust me....when you are Oing...there is no mistaking those ferns...!!! Maybe Baby can be confusing at times....my last cycle I ferned for about 10 days
Just wondering however...... with OPKs, is it better to use them twice a day, morning and night so you don't miss your LH surge?
I had loads of trouble with the Maybe Baby too but eventually got it to work for me by doing it at around 10am - 2 full hours after eating or drinking anything. No water - nothing! First thing in the morning just did not work for me and i know others have said the same so if you have no luck, try that.
It's true that when you get the ferns there is no mistaking them. And by the way - I got ferns and conceived but never once got a positive reading on an OPK. I wasted sooo much money on them!

Cosmic......I have NEVER had a positive OPK either...but full ferning on maybe baby!!!! Thats good to know.....I thought the maybe baby was wrong and perhaps I wan't Oing

I think once a day is fine, as long as you use them the same time every day so there isn't more than 24hrs between tests. For most women, you should get two days of results on an OPK. Usually, you'll see the surge on the way up (a faint line) on one evening and the peak of the surge (a stong line) the following evening. At the peak, you still won't O for another 24-36 hours, so there's still plenty of time. But a problem can be that you might only see the upsurge (faint line) and downsurge (faint line) and not ever see a really strong line if you test once a day. But that's not really a big deal because you know O is not too far away, so just start BDing.
The only reason you would need to do two tests is if you have an unusually short LH spike, or if you wanted to pinpoint with complete accuracy when you are going to O.
