Hi all,
Was wondering if anyone can give me some insight to whether or not the loud noises from a concert is harmful to the unborn child? Im due in Early december.... I bought U2 tickets last year, and was all set for the concert in March but they cancelled and are now playing on Nov 7 2006. I have standing tickets along with my Brother his partner, my financee, my sis and her hubby. They are one of my fav bands of all time and i dont wanna miss it.. Is all that loud noise really bad for the bub or is it safe. I do understand though if i get tired and sore feet from standing - that i would leave, but its the noise that im worried about. I feel that i wont ever get the opp to see them Live again
So what to do??????????
Sorry I can't help but laugh that you would be worried about the noise...I would be more concerned with being in the standing area around 4 weeks b4 your due date! I seriously doubt the noise will be an issue....I wouldn't be going unless I had seats....you don't want people bumping into you and I doubt you will be able to stand up for the whole concert either...

Dont think the noise would be a big problem, I drove me partners car while pregnant, 2 seater (and had subs right behind the seats), I would blast the tunes loud as, and bub seemed to like it.... I agree that I would be more worried about being in the standing area too, I've been to the Livid, Billy Idol etc, and it is crazy in the standing areas...
But if you feel you will be safe in that regards, i say by all means go and enjoy yourself.........

I know it does state in some books that prolonged periods of loud noise may be harmful to the developing ear of the baby but how much proof there is I am not sure.
I went to a concert while pregnant & my bub is just perfect, you'll be fine, just hope you dont go into labour!!!:)
I asked my OB this same question last week as I have concert tickets for next month, he said it was find and that the baby had plenty of soundproofing. If you feelup to it on the night go
there's no problem with it. On a smaller scale, we went to the movies at about 34 weeks.. I got all teary because on one of the previews there was a great big blast and Cobey nearly jumped out of my stomach, he was a bit scared. LOL
I'd be worried about the standing at 36 weeks as well.. I hope you like cankles :)
Enjoy the concert :D

Nah don't think it is a good idea.........you should give me your tickets!!:p :p
I missed a Jack Johnson concert 4 weeks before DD as everyone else I was going with refused to go with me....I was out voted and it ended up well justified as a fight happened around where my friends were .....so I suppose I was lucky.
See how you feel closer to the date?
I too have tickets to their Melbourne Concert. Even though I'll only be 7 months by then i have decided not to go. We have seats but no one ever sits down and I figure i wont be able to see a thing if everyone else is standing up. The noise does bother me a little but more so being knocked around getting in and out of the venue :(

I had the same dilemma when I was pregnant - we had tickets to NIN (ok, so I never really did grow out of my teenage angst phase :o ) and I was 36 weeks pregnant. I'd decided that the baby would be fine and we'd go but she had other ideas - just before we were due to leave for the concert, I went in to premature labour and ended up at the hospital instead. the contractions stopped about 2 hours after the concert would have finished - I guess she really really didn't want to go :p .

I constantly went to concerts throughout my pregnancy no big problems. At 8 1/2 mths I asked for a chair cause I couldn't get up off the ground, and couldn't stand for long periods.

I remember reading that, in later stages of a pregnancy, your baby can hear muffled sounds...not clear sounds. It mentioned that unborn babies can often remain awake during loud noises...like loud movies or music or whatever. It said that it wouldn't do any harm...just that the baby would generally be more active.
I never went to a concert while pregnant, but i listened to heaps of loud music... and I don't know if it's related or not, but my DD can sleep through anything. Loud noises have never been a problem for her (I could take her to the runway at an airport and she'd STILL sleep!).

I 'took' Jesse to Bon Jovi and he loved it!!
He was 'dancing' away for the whole 2 hours - now he loves Jon and the boys...which is lucky for him otherwise he'd have to find new lodgings!!

If it was anyone else playing I might consider not going whilst pregnant
But who could miss Bono and the boys seeing as they haven't been here for about 8 years.
I would have had a 1 week old baby if they had come when they said they were and whilst I'm really really glad they cancelled, I think I would have still gone (well I can say that now cause I really didn't have to make the decision!!):D
As for the noise, remember how noisy your heart beat (what a great rhythmic bass) must be for baby. And like someone else said plenty of insulation being inside your tum!
Good luck
As others have said, its probably the standing up and jostling with other people that will be more of a problem than the noise. I attended concerts, theatre and the opera whilst I was pregnant, DD loved it, she would kick away and now familiar music she heard in the womb seems to calm her down. I would probably go just in time for u2 and miss the support bands, as you will get tired standing, may get some swelling of your feet/ankles and be quite hot (its in Nov right?) and uncomfortable then anyway!!

lol.......my little boy is the same, I can vaccum whilst he's asleep, mow the lawn, took him to the pub for lunch on melbourne cup day last year and he slept right through all the noise.....And I always cranked up the sterio, so much so the subs would vibrate the whole car.........

Well my mum when i was about due, went to concerts, and discos and was dancing her butt off when she was preggy with me.. so i say go for it, sure babies can hear outside noise but i doubt all the way in there it as loud as you hear it. Go out have fun! Your pregnant not ill

Cankles aside.....Being the practical lass that I am I'd be more concerned about the line up for the ladies. The lines at these sort of things always seems to be that long that you need to line up before you need to go. Could be interesting at 36w? Maybe I just lack a sense of adventure or am jealous that I don't have tickets!:o

my mum was 37 weeks when she took me to "hear" the rolling stones... and i turned out ok... mostly ;)
i went to loads of gigs when i was pregnant, too, we went to Big Day Out and plenty of other concerts. but then, i went on a ski trip at 36 weeks (no, i didn't ACTUALLY ski!) and was in the clubs at thredbo until 4 am every night...
and as the world's biggest U2 fan, i'd say go - i'd go IN LABOUR if i had to, definitely  if you decide not to, i will buy your ticket and fly over for the gig- they're not playing perth :crying:
I went to the Indy when I was in late pregnancy about 34 weeks, my bubs moved like crazy when the Indy cars went past, so much so I had to leave the stadium as I was concerned about giving birth to a deaf baby. He is fine though. I wonder if that is why he is scared of loud trucks and motorbikes  freaks when they come past.
