Hey everybody! TTC and so have been using the "Maybe Baby" to chart my cycle. Have been doing this for 3 months now and have not had any "ferns" as yet. Does this mean I am not ovulating or am I doing something wrong or are other ovulation predictor tests more reliable and accurate for some people.
I know not everyone ovulates every month but how long do some people go between ovulating?
Not panicing yet, but I am 36 and don't want to waste time if I have a problem. Thanks:)

I can go 9 months without ovulating. It took me 6 months to get pregnant so I must have got lucky!

We used an ovulating kit that I picked up at Woolworths - can't remember the name but it was cheap. It never told me I was ovulating - it was always negative. I just hoped and prayed everytime DH and I got in the sack - which mind you was sometimes twice a day.....oh those were the days.....!

Good luck!

Hi there:wave:

I have not used the Maybe Baby so I am not sure how accurate it is, with my last pregnancy (i mean conception) I used ovulation prediction tests which is used just like a pregnancy test, I conceived within the 1st month (my other bubs took alot longer to conceive).
I bought them from a website called lullaby conceptions, they were great, I would try using the OP tests & chart your temp too if you like, that will give you a better idea if you are ovulating or not.
Another thing to conside also is if you have just come off the pill it can take a few months for your body to start ovulating again.
Best of luck.:)

I agree. Try some OPKs and start charting. I find Maybe Baby so confusing. Charting is great because it really gives you a good idea of how your cycles work, and will show pretty clearly if you are ovulating or not.

I agree, not to trust Maybe Baby unless you know it works for you as it doesnt work for some.

BBT would be the best way for you right now Id say as OPKs when you have no idea if you are ovulating will be wayyyyyyyyyyyyy expensive!

As others have said BBT will show you exactly if and when you are ovulating. Perhaps then if your cycles are not regular to be able to notice the dip before ovulation (BDing afer ovulation is unlikely to give you success) but you can kind of guess the range of days, you could use an OPK to pinpoint it beforehand.

I have tried Maybe Baby but find it very unreliable - I get ferns constantly so I can't tell what is going on. I have never been able to get a + on an ovulation test strip either - but then I got sick of having to buy them too. The best way I found was temping and also monitoring cm. It's the surest way to know that you are ovulating and helps you get to know your cycle. Good luck

Also found the microscopes unreliable as I have low estrogen levels.
I had no ferning when I last ovulated and got a BFP.

BEST method is to go from your CM.

My two cents worth (or what has helped me work things out and I have very very long cycles)!!

Start a chart on Fertility Friend
Get some cheap OPKs and do 2 a day from about day 10 (you can follow my method and smuggle the cup in your bra into the toilet at work if necessary!)
Do your maybe baby every day (same time, in morning, before eating, but after MMB (manky morning breath lol!) has gone away. Works for some people, didn't work v well for me.
Look into natural supplements like Vitex and Maca (there is heaps on info on this site about it)
Get a BBT and take your temperature every day (same time, before getting out of bed, preferably after 3 hours sleep)
BD every two-three days (if you can, I couldn't keep it up on my 120 day cycles!) and ramp it up when you get a second line on the OPK (start when you see faint line, and hopefully it will get darker)
Join the nightmare 2WW and try to avoid testing until after your AF is due!!K

Hi Freedee

I am also TTC (this is my first month). I went out and purchased a OPK at the supermarket and after 5 days of testing, got a positive result this morning (which indicates I am about to O). Fingers crossed for a pregnancy:fingerscrossed: . Can't comment about other tests but this one has worked for me. Perhaps give OPKs a try - the one I used is called "First response - 7 day pregnancy planning kit", although I am sure that it wouldn't matter which brand you purchase, they would all work on the same principles.

Hope it all goes well for you. Best of luck TTC!!!!

Ovulation kits are much cheaper if you buy them online. You can get combo packs with pregnancy test strips and ovulation strips, for under $20.00 US.

I agree with Chicken - start charting your tems!! Check out www.fertilityfriend.com for tips on charting our temps. Then when you get an idea as to when in your cycle you are O'ing (usually 14 days before AF) then you can use OPKs to pinpoint it if needed. Using CM works as a guide for some - but it has never worked for me as I don't seem to have much. Everyone is different. :fingerscrossed: for you.
