View Full Version : Mater Midwifery Group
Hi, only just found out about this option due to a Dr that doesn't tell me anything...
Is there a catchment for this? I am in Springwood/Daisy Hill, wondering if I would be able to get into this programme.
And how hard is it to get into - I am 14 weeks, so have I left it too late?
Will be getting an appt with my Dr asap but nothing is quick with her (grrrr! need to find a new one, if anyone has any recommendations of a good one taking bookings in this area I'd love them).
im in the MMGP at the moment.
I live in Kingston. A bit further out than they like, but they were ok with it. i just have to travel to Corinda for my appointments which is a bit of a pain.
just get your GP to send a referal to the midwifery group practise at the mater.
they generally tend to do first in first serve and are generally full pretty quick. i sent my referal at 6wks preg, but the antenatal clinic got it and didnt pass it on, so when i rang at 15 weeks they said they hadnt got it and would put me on the waiting list incase someone pulled out. 2 days later i got a call to say someone had pulled out.
Thanks Mel, I am getting onto it today! :fingerscrossed:
Hopefully my Dr will do it by phone. This is exactly the care I was looking for, I can't believe my Dr never told me...

i love the midwifery practice at the mater!
i don't think gps usually tell you about it. i think it's more the hospital that does. i hope you get in the midwives are so lovely
there's a facebook group if you;re interested :)
Grrr I am so angry now.
Mr Dr won't send the referral because 'I am out of their area'.
Yet I spoke to them and told them I was in Springwood, and they said they were full for August but I had a good chance of getting on if I wait listed, but they needed my referral asap.
I feel so frustrated now. I have asked the message to be passed to my Dr to please just send the referral, but have no confidence she will.

I just thought i would let you know that they are starting up a new section at forest Lake/Inala area. I never applied to be in the group practice and i am almost at the end of my pregnancy and they rang last week to ask if i wanted to join. It starts running on the 17th March, so maybe see if you could go to another Gp and get a refferal as you might be able to get into the Forest Lake/inala region group practice.
Also my sister in law went group practice and she lives at Springwood, so i would suggest seeing another Dr.
Just an update...
So I missed out on the Mater Midwifery Group, but now find out there is a new Group at Logan Hospital, been operating around a year, and I am being accepted onto that programme. So not my top outcome, but I am still happy, will be the same midwife throughout and delivering, and she seemed lovely on the phone.
Will let you know how it goes.
