There are a couple of different types of antifungal creams on the market - canesten is one, monistat another, and clonea yet another - but clonea and canesten are the same active ingredient.

You can't use the applicators while you're pregnant is the only thing - just use the cream, insert it with your fingers, very very gently. And its always a good idea to have it checked out by a GP if its the first time you've ever had it, or if you're pregnant.

Talk to the pharmacist. And good luck - thrush is no fun!

I had it in the late stages of my pregnancy and i was given some capsule like things to insert "up there" Cant remember the name! Both the doctor and pharmacist reccommended it though. Ill try and think of the name and get back to you!

I got it just after i found out i was pregnant. My doctor recommended canesten pessaries. Don't use the applicator just you finger (sorry TMI)

I also started taking Inner Health Plus capsuals. They have been a godsend :yelclap: Have kept the thrush away as well as keeping me regular

Good suggestions!
Plus if you're a bit anti drugs (like me!) you can take a Vit. B Complex supplement as thrush oftens indicates a deficiency in this vitamin and eat heaps of yoghurt to balance up your good bacteria 'down there'.
Hope this helps.
Love,
Nan. xx

Apparently some people build up a tolerance to Canesten, too, so it doesn't always work. I try to avoid medicines in preg. anyway and had this issue with last baby.

Sugar and yeast make it worse. Try going off lollies, choc, soft drink, white bread and bikkies etc for a week or so (good for maintaining weight, too!) and gradually start again when it's gone.

Wear loose and / or breatheable fabrics "down there". Ditch nylon and polyester and stick to cotton where possible esp. undies.

Salt baths are supposed to help, too (and tea tree oil, but it stings).

Hope it clears up for you soon.

Also if yo have been intimate with your partner recently you should really treat him too. They use the same cream as us, otherwise if you dont you will clear yours up and then he can transmit it back to you. They often have no symptoms.

Yep went to the doctor yesterday & both he and the chemist recommended canesten pessaries and both said not to use it with the applicator. That thing scared me anyway  Hopefully this works and it stays away :fingerscrossed: Thanks for all the suggestions!

Ive pretty much had it on and off throughout my pregnancy. It blows.

I was actually told by one of my midwives that there is nothing wrong with using a pessary applicator, she basically said "if you can have a penis up there, you can put the applicator up there".

I just use Nilstat pessaries though, they don't come with an applicator. I might try something else and see if it works better.
