Try it! Some people swear by it... some people swear AT it!!

it's all about routines.. quite strict... but I found it worked for one of my children (not the other)

Hi mummy2lilly :)
We bought the book a few weeks ago. DS (5 months) had never (literally!) gone down for his day sleeps without being fed to sleep/rocked/patted etc, and he only ever catnapped. Now we get 2 x 2hr sleeps most days, & he doesn't make a peep when we put him in his cot. I don't follow the routines too closely, but it has been GREAT for us! Good luck :)

I got this book for DD when she was a bub and it did help in some area's however Tizzie Hall always sets her routines around milk feed first than solid feeds where as once DD hit around 9 or 10 months for us having solid feed first always worked better. I mainly tried it out for naps, but not every baby will sleep a certain amount of hours after waking from previous sleep.. Some need to sleep more than other babies so don't stress too much if your bub doesn't stick to or obide by her routines. I actually highly recommend the book by Sheyne Rowley called The Dream Baby Guide. She has a few different routines for different age groups depending on you childs sleep requirement. She also has lots of other info relating to toddler-hood and how to handle tanties etc.
I found this book much easier to work with than Tizzie Hall, but I am in no way paying her out as my sister-in-law tried Tizzie's technique and her DD has slotted into the routines like perfection! Just depends on the bub :)

Here's Sheyne's website
http://www.australianbabywhisperer.com.au/

Oh by the way, I struggled ALOT with DD and sleep, I think I've read every sleep book on the planet

Good luck :)

I thought it was the stupidest parenting book I've ever read.

Sorry :o

If you're looking for routines, but not as strict as Tizzie Hall's, then I thoroughly recommend the baby bliss routines by Jo Ryan.
If you Google "Babybliss", you'll find their website & you can download free routines for all babies (newborn-12mths).
She is alot more flexible with her routines than Tizzie Hall. She also has a book out & you can buy it off the website too.

I'm not a fan - Tizzie is quite strict on her routines and I'm all over the place most of the time so it wasn't a good fit for us. She also doesn't really advocate demand feeding (she says its a good idea but hard to make it work so best to just go with her routine) which is very important to me. My bub is a great sleeper so I am just going to continue as we are unless things change. Going by your ticker, your bub is only a couple of weeks old (?) and I could never see any way of making her fit into a routine like that at such a young age.

My sister has it for her four week old and loves it, I'm planning to steal it when my baby is born!

We used it but adapted it to our own routine for the twins...we have never had a problem with the boys naps or bedtime:thumbsup:...they self settle and go right off to sleep.

Sorry :o

Agree. I even read it twice, once while pregnant, the other at 4 months. Not one single bit of advice even remotely worked for us.

I bought the book when DS1 was only a few months old and I thought it was great! I follow the 7-7 routine, I changed a few things around and it has worked great for my son.

Books by Gina Ford are also quite good, if you follow them loosely I find they work well.

Hated it... she is a big advocate for 1950s parenting styles IMO. Many of her techniques include controlled crying and crying it out which isn't recommended even by advocates until children are much older than newborn.

I found Pinky McKays methods much more gentle and suitable

This is the best book ever, i have 3 kids 4, 2 and 8 months and i have no trouble with them at all.

They all go to bed at 7pm without a peep, so daddy and i can have time together.

She also has a toddler book out now i bought it last week, great for teaching children boundaries.

If you want the best sleeping kid around follow this book.

HATE IT!

SO much so that i read the back of the book & put it back.

I had no less than 3 friends give me a copy when I was pregnant so it obviously works for some people

I read it when I was pregnant and hated it. I only picked it up a month ago when I was having trouble getting DS to have day naps and found that (like any parenting book really) there were a few good pointers but that was it.

For a newborn it is all very methodical, are you breastfeeding? It's all very by the clock and regimented. I couldn't have done it myself with a newborn. If you'd like I can pm you a days routine for a newborn out of the book and you can see what you think?

I have to agree with some PP, it is a terrible book. I read it a few times and just couldn't agree with it. It is basically CCing which I think is inappropriate for under 6 month old and also the routines are far to general for varying age ranges. IMO the sleep requirements for a 10-week old compared to a baby starting solids is massive yet Tizzie has them on the same routine.

I prefer Baby Bliss.

Loved it for my 1st DS, followed it religiously, but as he got older he needed more up time and moved to 1 sleep at 10mths. With my second I am loosely following it and the baby bliss routines, as he has reflux and each day can be totally different to the next:rolleyes:. She also has a great forum, which I found invaluable as well.

When Avaleigh was nearly 2 months old and up for 9+ hours during the day this book saved my life...

She is now 8 months old and although we dont strictly follow the routines anymore we follow them losely and this book has always gotten us out of a tight spot in relations to sleeping and eating issues!!!

OMG I love it and could not have survived without it!

I have friends that absolutely swear by this book, and I was given it when DS was just a few weeks old. We've used it and have had pretty good success, however we haven't stuck to the routines rigidly because DS would never ever sleep for 2x2hour during the day.

I think it's good to have a read through, give it a go and see if it works. If it doesn't then no big deal, some babies fit well on her routines and some don't, simple as that.

I think it is okay for some stuff, but I personally wouldn't put my daughter on some of the routines, especially the 'newborn' routines listed. Don't think I've heard many babies on a newborn routine???

Jasper was 5 weeks old when my mum gave this book to me (purely because of the title and the picture of a cute sleeping baby on the front)

It made me cry and I feel like its written with a good side helping of guilt.

I didn't like it at all.

Though, I've been baby sitting a boy who's mum is following this book - so I've been trying to find wherever I buried it in a cupboard, because I feel like i should read it again, as even though I dont agree with it, but if it works for her, and works for her boy, I'm happy to take it onbord.

I just wouldn't recommend it.

I liked "the no cry sleep solution".

There are plenty of better books out there, less controvesial.

When looking for a sleep book for Jasper when he was 8 months old I went to the library and got out 4 books, and 3 i hated, 1 was very valuable, and didn't cost me a thing

This book not only saved our sleep but our sanity too!!!

Tizzie's forum is brilliant as well, I honestly can't rave about it enough:yelclap:.

In terms of breastfeeding and controlled crying, I am still BFing my 19 month old and can honestly say I have never even tried controlled crying with him.

All in all, great book especially if you are a 'routine' person yourself.

I used it when i was breastfeeding and also once I started bottle feeding. I liked the routine because I knew i could plan my day around when I would need to feed sooner than HOPING baby would want a feed when I was half way home or whatnot.

My husband and I found this book when Oliver was about 6 months old, and by 7 months he was sleeping, after having us up every 2 hours at night since he was born.

George was on it from 4 days old... as soon as we left the hospital... and he slept through the first time on his 3rd month birthday and slept right through 7-7 with a dream feed ever since! :)

I grant it doesnt work for everyone, and living with a routine takes alot of hard work, but for me and for my husband, the end result was worth it.

I don't know how you could successfully breastfeed your children longterm with that persons book. Small babes (and big babes) need you to listen to them, not the other way round. If I were to recommend any book, or author, it would be Pinky Mackay.

My son has just turned two, is still demand boob fed, sleeps 1.5 hours during the day and is down for the night by seven.

I honestly think *that person* is anti child. I don't think that parents who do the routine are badies...I just think it sucks!

This book was fantastic for us all round, sleeping, feeding even problems that crop up I found answers for in here.
It is def a personal choice & the debate on routines v demand is one that has been going on & on in many threads. I don't think it's fair for people to put the author or anyone who follows these routines down, it obviously works just not for everyone.
I coped so much crap off people when I was pregnant for wanting to follow this book but I'm glad I stuck it out. I have friends who now see how ds is & will also follow the book but won't mention it to anyone because of the flack u get. I don't think it's fair at all. So please don't listen to other people's negative comments especially if they havnt used the book, if you want to give it a try do it. If you don't then don't but what do you have to lose?

I read it whilst in hospital after DD was born and I was suffering a lot of physical injuries from her birth, plus a lot of mental trauma, finding it hard to bond, finding it hard to breastfeed - I wanted to try routine with bub and failed miserably. At first I just thought it was because I was failing as a mother, and then I just realised it was because DD just didn't do imposed routines.

I gave up after a few days, she was sleeping through by 19 weeks and was the happiest, easiest baby in the world as soon as I started listening to her needs instead of trying to arrange her life around my own.

She sorted out her own routine and I left her to do so.

It's not always like this for all babies, but it was like it for mine.

What I hate about that book is that she guarantees that her routines will work on all babies, thereby making you feel like if they don't actually work for yours there is something, somehow, wrong with you (or your baby).

Also, ALL babies aren't the same, so it shouldn't be the case the one method works for them all. They're not little machines.

As far as I know, she doesn't have her own kids. That's not to say that she isn't extremely experienced with children, but I think you can't have genuine empathy for a situation until you've been in it yourself.

Lastly, in order for her routines to work for ALL babies, as she claims, there would be a great deal of babies out there who would need to be really forced into them, as not all babies are suited to strict routines like hers. That, to me, is just wrong.

So those are the reasons I didn't like her book.

I thought it was great. Didnt follow it too rigidly but used it as a guide. Certainly didnt think it was "anti child" Just think it gave me a bit more structure instead of being all over the place , but then again Im anal and like organisation!

I love love love the book - used it from 6 months on and my DD sleeps like an angel - usually 2.5 hours in the day (one sleep) and 7pm - 7am (sometimes later if I am lucky). Before then she would wake at least 8 times a night and had to be breast fed back to sleep!

It doesnt work for everyone but I call it my bible.

Give it a go - doesnt hurt to try

Can get it at Kmart, Big W or Target - around 30 bucks - sometimes cheaper on sale :hugs:

Thanks Ladies for the replies, Df and i are looking at giving the book ago with a few other books. We had DD in a strict routine since she was 2 weeks old so im wanting to start trying from 2 weeks with ds. As it would give me a little more help trying to fit his routine in with dd's so i can spend more time with dd during the day. Plus we are the sort of family that likes to always be in a routine and do things etc at certain times as it helps if anything ever has to pop up.

Thanks again.
