It looks like we may all be moving to Brissie within the month. DH has a job offer. The job is located in Archerfield, south of Brisbane. We are an extended family with 2 schoolage kids aged 10 and 12, and our adult dd and her 5month old son. I will be looking at fulltime work once we arrive and settle. Our dd and her baby will eventually move out on their own, but for the moment we will all live together. We will be looking for a 4-5 bedroom house and realestate.com.au is a great place to look but useless when you just dont know what is a better area and where is not so family friendly.

We are coming from Tassie and would prefer to settle near the water, preferably with a beach and lots of walking and bike riding tracks. We looked at Coomera for its proximity to the GC but feel it may be a bit of a long commute for DH, would I be right in thinking this? How long would it take to reach Archerfield by train from there for instance? Or should we look around the Redlands area? Our children would attend a state school so would like to know areas where the better schools are to be found.

We have all been waiting months for a job opport. to come up and now that it has, well, Im beginning to feel very nervous about the whole thing!!! LOL....seems to be sooooo much we will have to organise from packing, to new schools, to finding a new home........any and all info. anyone local can give us will be so much appreciated!!

Brissie/Gold Coast....here we come!!! lol:eek:

Congrats on your upcoming move! We come from Robertson - which is only about 5-10 minutes drive from Archerfield. I used to work in the Redlands and it would take me 20-25 minutes to drive each way. It's a really nice area to live in and is close to the water which is something you mentioned wanting. There are also lots of good schools (both public and private) - I myself taught at a private school there. Ormiston might be a good spot to look at.

Living further down the coast becomes a bit of a commute but with the M1 freeway the traffic doesn't seem to be as bad anymore (unless there's a really bad accident).

Good luck with the househunting - hope some of the above helped!

Welcome to Qld! I'd recommend the Redlands/Wynnum area if you want to be close to the water. You'll find good schools in these areas too. Having done the commute thing before, I'd suggest giving the GC a miss - it's nice to be near the beach, but the traffic can be a nightmare especially if there's an accident. Redlands/Wynnum are nice enough areas such that you feel like you're in a smaller town, rather than a big city. And it's not that far from the GC if you want to head to the coast for the day. Lots of parks/tracks in these areas too, and not that far from the city if you want to see a big sporting event.

Good luck with your move!

Thank you so much for your reply! Do you happen to know just how long it would take to get from Coomera to Archerfield? I heard it may be around 45 mns, but that could be wrong! We are probably flying up this coming weekend so we can check out any potential areas for us then.....but would like an idea as to where to start. We have heard that coming from Tassie we would find it a lot more unbearable heatwise in Brissie than closer to the coast that is one reason we are leaning toward a coastal area......apparently the humidity can be really bad in SUmmer the further inland you are?

We are all nervous and excited about the big move!!!......we have been contending with 10oC temps. down here in Hobart and are soooooo ready for some better weather for the long term!!!!.....lol
