So, what age do you allow your kids to brush their own teeth? DD1 usually does it herself but I am never sure if she is doing a proper job so I wanted to see what other parents do.

Since they were about 3 i guess. Bub (almost 2) refuses to let me brush hers  we are working on it though.
My son had to go to the dentist the other week, the dentist told me to brush his teeth 4 nights out of 7 (letting him do 3 nights himself), because basically kids dont do the properly. He is almost 6.

At 6 I still brush them most nights. If she does them at night I do them in the morning.
A dentist told me to do it for them till they were at LEAST in primary school - he recommended till they were 7 .
I let both my boys (4 and 2) have a turn at doing their own teeth, but I get to do it FIRST ... then they can brush their own for as long as they want
We do try a few different things though, to keep it interesting ... this week the boys both wanted to lie down .. like they do at the dentist .. while I brushed *shrugs* whatever works

I let my kids (5 & 2) brush first then I finish just to make sure they have cleaned them properly.

Around age 2 but I take over and make sure they're done properly. I still do that with Hayley and she's 5 and a half.

I was told that too
Bradley started his own brushing at about 3years. Brushes morning and night, for the night time one I let him do it first then I finish it :)

Yep Both my two brush first (well DS chews) then I check. Though DD does a pretty good job and we Polish sometimes too (toothpaste on a cloth to make them "all shiny to show Nanna" - who has to see them over the phone:laughing:)

 over the phone .. oh FUNNY ...
I actually had to show Jack (4) some interesting photos online tonight .. because he has started causing a fuss when I ask him to do his teeth .. two minutes online with a dentistry site - and he went to the bathroom with no fuss  some pretty scary teeth other there!!!

I have been brushing the boys teeth from the first time they got a tooth...so they are use to tooth brushes.
I always brush their teeth, either before or after they have had a go, just to make sure they are done properly and they are 3yrs and 18mths...it's just part of our bath routine.
I don't know when I will stop helping them though, haven't thought about it.
