cornflour and not the home brand no name crap either, has to be the brand one in that comes in the yellow box(not sure of the name of it but its so so cheap, only $2 or so for a huge box that will last forever literally). sprinkle some of that onto your DS after every nappy change. my son never got nappy rash with it and i absolutely love it.

paw paw ointment or am-o-lin worked for us mainly have to find something that works for you but sounds like he needs a barrier

We use Paw Paw ointment here too. I find it works really well.
I suggest buying the huggies newborn wipes 144 pk for $10 (the one with the little baby on it) anything else made DS red raw.
Bepanthan is the only cream that works for us. I don't like powders.
I recommend Paw Paw Ointment...I think its absolutely amazing stuff!!
:iagree: We use Paw Paw for everything! It is the only thing we use on DD.

Moo goo here (though if its really bad we go for sudocream or pawpaw - whatever is closest)
Perhaps try ditching the wipes and using either a facewasher/cloth and plain water or something like cetaphyl that is neutral and very gentle on wee bottoms. I found I can only use the sensitive wioes on my kids and I need to give it a break and use cloth wipes regularly (with DD I only used wipes when we were out but I've been a bit slack with DS)
Oha nd lots and lots of nappy free time and if you can get some nappy free time in the sunshine for a few mins it helps too.
Desitin which you buy at chemists is the best. Its a zinc based cream like sudocream but stronger. It gets rid of bad marry rash like magic.

:iagree: my DS's rash was gone overnight using it
We use Paw Paw ointment here too. I put it on everything and it works great. DD had really bad nappy rash for the 1st time a couple of weeks ago so I put stacks of paw paw on her and it was gone the next day. I use it as lip balm too. :)

Some bicarbinate soda in the bathwater will help clear up the existing rash. Teething, medications etc can all cause these things sometimes they are just unavoidable

:iagree:also sudo cream to i found to be awesome
I use sudocream, works wonders!
Paw paw ointment sounds good too, I use it on cuts, grazes, lipbalm..must try it on DDs bottom one day :detective:
We live in the Northern Territory - hence hot, humid climate - a breeding ground for nappy rash. We were changing every couple of hours, lots of nappy free time, using sudocream and curash nappy cream. Nothing seemed to get rid of it.
My sister suggested the $2 Woolworths homebrand Lanolin cream. After 24 hours the rash was gone. we use it with every nappy change now and haven't had a problem since.
It's hard to avoid the more expensive brands as you think they should work, but am glad that this cheap product works. It contains no zinc cream and is based off lanolin. After reading through many nappy rash forums and seeing peoples solutions to the problems (even american sites) it seems a lot of the different formulas people recommend contain lanolin!!
My next try if the above didn't work would have been paw paw ointment.

i actually use products from my home shopping club, they are ALL toxic free which is the biggest bonus and also i have found the other kids/babies stuff in the range really helps as well...
i cream called 'Penaten' or 'Covitol' work wonders!!! they are both chemist only creams though. the first one is a bit pricey though around $14-$27 for a tin... and the second is about $8 for a tube of cream.
they both work wonders and cleared dds rash up quick smart!!!
dd had horrible rashes... and i have tried that many creams, powders, ointments, lotions... you name it we've tried it!!!!
i found that a soap free lotion in the bath instead of baby wash etc worked well to clean and didnt harm her skin or nappy rash... i used cetaphill lotion and would put 'dermeze' on her bottom afterwards... (but at this stage her rash was infected and bleeding and and she was on anitbiotics for it and hourly nappy changes!!!)
hope you find somthing that works for you!!!
you can also use the lotion as a way of cleaning bub bottom (using facewashers or towels) as it doesnt dry out the skin and will help healing too!!!
I use pawpaw, its wonderful! I also use Sorbolene on other parts of his body.
Not sure if you use disposables or cloth.
I tried all the creams, wipes etc on my son - but it turned out he was allergic to the nappy! Apparently it is more common than people realise, but because most parents dont try cloth as an alternative, they dont realise. I'm not sure if it is from the water absorb crystals or the plastic in the nappy, but I tried every brand I could lay my hands on and nothing made it work. And he had a LOT of nappy free time (gotta love baby legs!)
Since I put my son into cloth nappies, he hasn't had any sort of a rash at all...

Im probably a bit late for this post but just wanted to mention that i agree with secretsquirrel. My DD dosent get bum rash very often but when she does, i immediately ditch the wipes and just use a soft facewasher with warm water and dab bottom clean after each nappy chance. Wipes contain moisturisers that aid in keeping the bottom moist which is not what you want when a rash is there. It will never heal and probably only make things worse! Only use wipes when the bottom is free of rashes.
And, we use Bepantham because its a barrier cream and protects the bottom from poo burns, etc. My DD is 8 months old and she has only every had 2 rashes and with the process as above, the rash has only ever stuck around for a couple of days.

The wipes have chemicals and stuff in them - so if DD ever had a rash, I'd use a face washer moistened with warm water, and dabbed that on gently (instead of rubbed, as rubbing a sore bum would be quite painful!).
Paw-Paw ointment worked for smaller rashes, and curash powder worked for bigger ones (though, I used the powder because of MCNs...).
