Hi,
I am trying to find the right formula for my 3 month old DS, he was origianally thought to be allergis to cows milk so was on s26 soy but has been quite unsettled and vomity, I have also tried karicare soy but havent noticed a difference. I would like to try him on goats and also SMA as it will fill him longer and goats as it may suit better than soy.
Is it ok to try different brands at the same time and mix feeds up a little. I would like to give the filling one at night as he wakes every 2 hours for a feed. I would like to see if he is more settled on the goats milk.
A doctor that I saw said that it is ok to use different types at the one time but would like to know if anyone has any experience with it.
Thanks, J.

Hi J,
If he's having issues with cows milk, then u may want to re-think giving him SMA because its so heavy in the protein (its casein dominant). Yes, its going to keep him feeling fuller for longer because its digested slower, but its not a formula that that bubs with a cows milk allergy are generally advised to use.
The SMA is really different to the goats milk & because of that, using 2 formulas at the same time is generally only advised during a weaning process (going from one formula over to another). His tummy could get quite confused if using a easy to digest milk during the day and a much heavier one at night - & it may play around with his stools.
It can be a really confusing & frustrating time to find a formula that bub tolerates, but its not usually advised to chop and change a lot, and if you are changing, to wean over slowly. Hope this helps a bit. :)

trying to find the right formula that suites ur lil one can be hard work!

when i stopped expressing, evie was originally started on s26 gold because she had had that before at the hospital, however we decided to change her after a week or two because it was giving her bad gas, we were told to slowly introduce the new formula over a few days, by starting off giving her one feed of the new formula and then replacing 2 feeds the next day etc etc. just so that her tummy had time to get used to the new one.

i know its not soy but have u thought about trying him on bellamy's organic? we found it settled evies tummy problems really well.

Goats milk will still be a problem if it's CMP allergy. My daughter has CMP allergy and is on neocate.
I was told to never use two formulas at once it can be very harmful on bubs gut.
Good luck.

HI,
Thanks for your replies!
Waterlily did the neocate stop your bub vomiting? Or did your bub not vomit? Also is it script only?
Thanks, J.

When they put her on Neocate they put her on losec for reflux also. I think they go hand in hand (allergies and reflux) and she did stop. Yes it's script but you can get a PBS script 8 tins for $34
good luck.
