Help I have a 3 week old bub who is great at sleeping at night with only 2 feeds between 9pm and 6pm. He feeds then settles straight away, however in the last few days he is awake most of the day and very grizzly. I am afraid that this habit may start at night too. I have tried to settle him to just nearly asleep then putting him to bed, but he won't settle and ends up in such a state crying. The only option that worked before was cuddling him and rocking him asleep or letting him fall sleep while feeding, however he is now waking up 5 mins after you put him down in his cot. I always go thru the things that maybe troubling him like bum change, feed and check his temp, etc, but he is still restless. :confused:Help!

My son was like this too. The only thing we could do until he wad about 4 -5 months old was hold/rock/walk in ergo/co sleep during the day. Fundamentally I think
he was just a hyper alert, active baby who didn't want to miss anything. And of course also got overtired etc from not sleeping enough so needed more help during the day. We started some gentle self settling techniques (Elizabeth pantley) at around 3 months. Thus involved gradual withdrawal of the rocking/walking etc. Took about 4-6 wks for any significant change but i wasn'. Prepared to leave him to cry at all at that stage.

He fed more than your Bub overnight but didn't take to having unsettled periods at night (well, beyond the first newborn weeks) until he started sleeping better during the day, then he started mucking around at night so be careful what you wish for!

Sounds like bub is getting over tired therefore making it harder to sleep.

Have you got a sling? Babies love being close to their mummies in the first few months of life and carrying bub in a sling is a great way to do that, plus you are hands free so you can go about your daily tasks with ease.

Or a baby swing can work wonders with some little ones whop feel the need to have movement constantly.

It will pass, with time, but for at least a few months bub will be pretty attached to you, your heart beat, your smell, and your touch, so try to enjoy it while it lasts.

Slings are great, honestly, they take a bit of practice but are worth your sanity!

Are you breastfeeding? If so keep a food diary, something you eat might be upsetting bubs tummy.

yep im with the PPs aswell
you cant go wrong with a baby swing, and id never have survived (or done any house work, cooking or washing) for the first six months of DDs life if it wasnt for a good sling!

also are you sure they dont have gas/reflux?
i did the good old bicycle legs with DS for at least fifteen min after a feed to make sure all his gas was up or out!
