We were thinking of getting a maxi rider for my DS, who's nearly 2 because baby #2 will need his car seat. If anyone has one, do you love them? I know there's a few other brands who now do the 8 - 26kg convertible carseats/boosters, so any opinions on them would be great too!

I love the MR. DD has had it since she was 3 and now she's 6.5 and still in it and still in the built in harness part of it too. I wouldn't have felt safe using it under 3 years, though. Could you perhaps use a capsule for this baby and keep your 2 year old in the current carseat for longer?

We have a Trek 8. Its a great seat and the only thing I was slightly concerned about was it not having the anti-sub clip that the maxi-rider does. I'm pretty happy with the anti-sub path though and if I was really worried I could get the clip from britax and put it in our Trek.

Thanks for the info, we will have a capsule for the first few months, but DS will still only be about 2 and a half. they do say from 8kg though, and he's about 12kg at the moment, so thought its would be ok...

Yeah they can be used from 8kgs, but I just prefer the safety of the baby seat for a smaller child. That's just me though. I thought a capsule could be used for up to 12 months now?

I like the seat, but it is so darned wide! If we only had a sedan and needed 3 in the back I would have to change seats.
we have a maxi rider ahr in one car and a safety1st convertable booster in the other car. they are both great seats though DD prefers the safety1st cause she can put her snacks and drinks in the cup holders easier as they are easier to access whereas with the maxi they are a bit far down for a toddler to reach - obviously easier for an older child
we have a maxi rider ahr and our 10 month old has just gone into it in our second car. He is in nice and tight as there are lots of settings - just as safe as a forward facing convertible.

I currently have 2 Maxi Riders and a Fisher Price reversible (in reverse position) in the back of my Camry sedan but had to get the Ambulance to install them because I just couldn't do it without one of the seats not being put in properly.
I would not buy a Maxi rider or any other car seat for as long as you can. WIth the new car seat laws we might start to see new car seat's come out that go upto a higher weight (upto 32kg). :fingerscrossed:

Good point, I actually heard somewhere (maybe here?) that there is a new seat due out that has a higher weight range on it.
