Hi - Im new to these forum sites, so bare with me!!
I have been suffering from carpal tunnel (numbness in hands while sleeping mainly) Can be painful and very annoying, leaving me with no strength in my hands for a few hours in the morning. A constant pins and needles feeling. Just wanting to know if anyone else is suffering from this and what you may have done about it. Hve heard that 30% of expectant mothers suffer from it, but they say it goes away after giving birth. Just wondering if it actually does go away after giving birth, cause if it doesn't - how am i to attend to the baby in the middle of the nite???? Anyone with information please fill me in
thank you

i had this in the last couple of months of my pregnancy and i wore splints and did exercises that i got from the hospital (ask your midwife or Ob at your next antenatal appointment) but as soon as i had bubs it disappeared! I fear that it will return with this pregnancy though..It such an awful feeling isnt it? You poor thing..Are you sleeping with your hands elevated? I used to also apply heat packs to my wrists when i was in bed at night had this felt good for a while but i never found anything that stopped the pain and pins and needles...I think most of the time it clears up after the birth so dont stress too much about that!:)
Hi there and welcome to bub hub
I too suffered from Carpal Tunnel with my first pregnancy. My Dr gave me some of those tounge supressers (large paddle pop sticks) and my DH would bandage them to my wrists every night to keep them straight. This did help a little although it made going to the toilet a bit hard
Yes mine did go after my daughter was born and the swelling in my hands subsided.
Hope you can get some relief as I know how pain full it can be
Best of luck

I was suffering from it as well and after DD was born it was mainly gone. I had it a few times in the first months after delivery though, but not as intesive as in pregnancy.
Good luck and all the best.

I had a mild bout of Carpal tunnel in one wrist when I was pregnant with DD-it wasn't painful enough to warrant investigation or treatment. Three years later (and I don't know if this was in any way connected to past pregnancies) I had a really acute bout of it-to the p[oint I was waking up in the night crying because I was in so much pain. I had to sleep sitting up with my are resting on the bedside table. Anyway , a visit to the GP, who put me on something to reduce the fluid and booked me in to see a hand and wrist specialist who concurred with the GP that I should have it operated on  . I was put on the waiting list and in the meantime, it settled down and caused no more pain. I waited...and waited...and waited.....no closer to being operated on but no more symptons either. Three years passed (yes, three years) and I was still on the waiting list but had had no more trouble with it. They finally rang last Nov, when I was 8 months pregnant again to say you are now at the top of the waiting list  . As I hadn't had any problems with it in three years and no sign of pain throughout the whole of my third pregnancy, I told them they may as well take me off the list.
So, having had it during pregnancy number 2, there was absolutely no hint of it with pregnancy number 3!
I too had carpal tunnel during my pregnancy. I went to the Dr and had to wear my hand (luckily it only affected one had) in a splint. I kept the splint on 24/7 and it really helped with the pain. A couple of weeks after DS was born it disappeared again. I've been told that it's more than likely it will re-occur when I have another baby.

I had carpal tunel as well in my left hand. I had pins and needles heaps and it was quite painful at night time. I used to just rest my arm on a pillow and keep it straight.
The good news is, it goes away after the baby is born!!

Yep, I too had carpal tunnel syndrome while pregnant. I still have trouble with it, but that's because I had a problem with it before I fell pregnant too. Here (http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/pregnancy/prenatalhealth/234.html) is a link on pregnancy related carpal tunnel. Good luck!

I've got it in my right wrist and it seems to now be appearing in my left as well (since yesterday). My OB said that I can't do much for it, so just put up with it, and that it'll go when I give birth.
As others have said, it hurts more at night when I am sleeping, and roll over, forgetting all about my wrist - OUCH! Also, writing hurts (my OB just told me to stop writing - a little bit hard when I am still working, in an office!).
