Hi my name is Leighanne (or lollie rather) and thought I would start a chit chat thread for multiple mums and multiple mums 2 be. Having multiples is awesome (my twins are 1 month old tomorrow) but sometimes it is nice to be able to have a chat with people who have or are experiencing what you are. It's easy for people to say they understand but finding people who actually do is a bit if a struggle and let's face it, with multiples it is important to have a strong support base! So here's to the journey of having multiples :smiliedance:

Maybe leaving a little about yourself so we can get to know each other.

Name: Leighanne
Kids: almost 1 month old twins (a boy and a girl) and an almost 4 yo boy
Conception: No medical intervention was needed - conceived "naturally with both pregnancies
Delivery: Via c-section @ 37 wks (participated in a study - but when into labour on the day anyway)
Any multiples in family: No multiples in family but first pregnancy was a mutiple too!

Umm I can't think of any other info facts. I guess if anyone wants to know just ask. I don't bite....hard ;)

Hi,

I agree that people without multiples can't really understand what it is like, as much as they think they do.

A little about me....

Name: Karen
Kids: 15 month old fraternal twin boys and another little bub on the way. I am due the first week of January, so I will have 3 under 2 for 4 months! I'm not sure what I am having yet but I do know there is only 1 in there!
Conception: We had help to fall pregnant with the boys after trying for 2 years by ourselves. We had what is known as IUI which just means that they take the strongest swimmers from hubby's sperm and place them directly into my uterus to increase the chance of them meeting up.
Delivery: I was induced at 38 weeks and then ended up having an emergency c-section due to twin 1 being stuck and distressed (his mum was pretty distressed by that stage as well!)
Any multiples in family: None on my side. Hubby's cousin had twins 19 years ago!

I just want to add that I would be a very rich woman if I had a dollar for everytime I heard 'double trouble'!

Have you? Oh my goodness, must note to be moe aware that people read my stuff lol.

Nice to meet you all, I can't wait to get to know one another better :D

Haylie I get the are they identical all the time as well. I sometimes forget that people can be so uneducated on twins, that it shocks me when they say it. My response is usually no boy/girl twins can not be identical and I have had a few run ins with ladies who challenge me upon that statement. I don't intend on being rude or anything but hello I think I know a bit more about twins than the average person. When we leave the conversation they still think they know what they're talking about :banghead:

My babies are now 5 weeks old and I feel like crying. Pregnancy went so bloody slow and now I am finding it is going too fast! *sighs* I am enjoying every moment I can but I feel like i'll blink and they'll be a disobedient little 3 year olds before I know it.

Oh Haylie you live in Kal? My DH lived there a few years ago and used to work at Coyle's mower and heating centre as a small engine's mechanic. He told me that the place is very expensive to live in and the town is mainly full of pubs. I just want to see whether he's having me on!

And you can add to the list of questions if you guys like, at the time I couldn't think of anything else. Well I must be off, have some more feeding to do.

Ps I have no idea why anyone in their right might would want to demand feed twins but if they do, I take my hat off to them. I tried to yesterday and was so frustrating. I don't think my boobs were away at all. So i'm sticking to my feeding both together at 3-4 hour intervals.

Sharon sorry I meant to add this before. I thought it was very uncanny about having identical twins through IVF. Thank goodness it was only the one egg transferred huh? Good on you & congratulations. I love hearing people's triumphs, it truly is special.

If anyone would like to tell me the month and year their multiples (and other children) were born and what gestational age you went to. I could do up a proper list if you liked. Or someone else could do a list if they wanted to

Either way doesn't bother me. :)

Hi, I'm new to this site.

Children: 7 year old girl - 20th June 99 and Fraternal Twin girls - 21st of
November 03
Conception: ICSI for all 3
Delivery: Water Broke then induced for eldest at 37 weeks and c-section for twins at 38 weeks

It seems like only yesterday that my twins were little. They grow up too fast.

People really have no idea! I constantly get asked what the age difference is between my youngest. They seem to think that if they don't look alike then they can't be twins. Once someone even tried to tell me they aren't twins after I told her they were! One of my twins is about 5 cms taller than the other and they look nothing alike.

twins+another
21-08-2006, 08:29
Congratulation Lollie on the safe arrival of your twins!

My two boys also look nothing alike and I often get 'told' that they couldn't possibly be twins. In fact people often assume that one isn't even mine! Do they think that I just borrowed someone elses baby so that I could fill both sides of my double pram? LOL

People seem to have such a fascination for twins and that fascination seems to make them think that they know all there is to know about mothering twins! I guess its just the price we pay for being doubly blessed.

All the best everyone

Hi everyone,

Here's my info:

Name: Jane
Children: Emma - 2yrs old, Tia & Jessica - 5 months
Conception: Natural - first month of trying!
Delivery: C/S @ 38 wks - was very happy to get them out by that stage!
Multiples in Family: so we found out after finding out it was twins - great great grandmother was a twin.

I agree that people have a fascination with twins. I found this out very quickly the first time I took the girls to the shopping centre. Everyone wants to stop and ask a hundred questions or make those annoying comments such as "double trouble". I also hated when I was pregnant getting comments such as "I'm glad it's you and not me" or "aren't you going to have your hands full". Not many people had anything positive to say and when your pregnant and hormonal it can really get you down!

Take care.

Lollie
29-08-2006, 09:16
Sorry for my absence ladies, i'm sure you guys understand. My babies are 8 weeks old today  Thank you for the congratulations.

I agree it is nice to hear people's kind words (those have them) but like everyone else most times I avoid eye contact so I don't have to go through it. It's like having instant celebrity status. Everyone's looking and wanting to come up and have a chat. I do honestly forget that it's a big deal to some people. I stroll around the shopping centre oblivious to the fact that I am different, it's nt until I hear the murmurs and see the looks that I realise how interested people are. Some days its good, other days I just want to get in and get my shopping done and get home. They don't seem to understand that, they just think I am being rude but no singleton mum can honestly imagine what it is like to have twins. Even if they have 2 under 2, it's not the same.

Anyways still breast feeding, not getting much milk out when expressing anymore but I guess that is normal seeing as they are both finally latching and I can fully breastfeed them properly :smiliedance: Woohoo :smiliedance:

Oh heck, must go Shaiyan wants another feed. Poor little things have gastro at the moment so trying to keep their fluids up as much as possible. I promise to come in adn have a chat as often as I can. Ta for now!

Hi there ladies,

There are so many of us and it's great to see.

Andrewsmum, how are you going? What scare did you have last week?

I saw the specialist for Twin - twin out at Monash today and I'm feeling a bit more positive and hopeful...We still have a long way to go but I'm taking it week by week.

Looking forward to catching up with you all soon.

I really feel for you ladies, I do! TTTT syndrome is a very intricate condition to have to deal with on top of the emotional rollercoaster of being pregnant with twice the hormones as singleton pregnancies. I can't imagine what it would be like to go through the process but i do know how scary the words "it can happen to you" can be. There is nothing i can say or do to alleviate the concerns TTTT cause so i just wanted to let you know that i am here for you if you need to chat to someone about how you are feeling about everything & anything. Support is what gets you through life & the more of it that you get, the less insane one tends to be. Well it's supposed to work like that

My bubbies have just gotten over the flu & gastro plus we celebrated our elder son's 4th birthday party which i catered for. Next time I think I may let good old Ronald (Mcdonalds) host it. I though doing it myself would be cheaper - boy was i wrong :banghead: Was a lovely spiderman cheesecake cake. Starting to feel a bit bloated after 5 or so mouthfuls but it's so worth it me thinks!

Wow, there really is alot of us! I noticed my twins are the oldest so far.

I have been trying to figure out what to do about a pram. I have a twin emmiljunga and macclaren. One of my girls is too tall for both prams. She can't lie down in the emmiljunga and the macclaren annoys her head even while sitting up. They are only 2 years and 8 months old.

When the weather is nice I ususally walk my eldest to school and back. So, I can't do it until I figure out what to do. Only one of them sleeps but of course it the one that is too tall for the prams.

So, just some advise for anyone who hasn't already bought their pram. Be careful......

Multipules in family: Yep Me! I have a twin brother and there are various FT in our extended family

It's nice to find a positive place talking about twins, I'd become very quiet about my twin pregnancy because of all the stupid negative comments complete strangers give! They are all very quick to be critical..... I think being a twin is one of the best things in the world! When people see me at the shop and ask I usually have my two and my sisters two so I look like I have 4 already. When they shriek and say are they all yours I'm so tempted to say 'Yes and I pick the big kids up at 3 when school finishes!' Some people should learn to think before they speak!

Conception: Though IVF. First cycle was unsuccessful but then had success with first go on second cycle.
Delivery: I had a Caesaran at 37 weeks

I have identical twin boys who are now 15 months old (my where the time flies)!! I think the hardest thing I found about having twins was all the attention I received when I went anywhere.
I had done so much research about multiples when I found out that I was having twins bu tthis was somehting I really wasn't expecting.

12-09-2006, 20:40
Wow, Sheridan, Ness, and Louise, you have had your babies already LOL!! I guess I understand about the looks/stares/questions that people ask!! I myself have gone up to complete strangers to ask about their twins (sorry) :o That list of bubhubbian's with multiples is growing longer... I hope I have enough enthusiasm to join the bubhubbians with older twins...

Well, so far, after a TTTS scare, things seem to have settled down. The babies now have normal amniotic levels so I'm hopeful things are OK! umm, I'm sooo over this pregnancy - only 26.5 weeks along into this pregnancy - feel as big as i was full term with DS. It's sooo uncomfortable and I can't sleep much because of all the leg cramps/reflux/painful ribs and back/numerous trips to the loo, etc... so I'm feeling pretty miserable :crying:

Did you choose to breastfeed your twins? I have no idea what I wanna do (breast or bottle).

Anyway, hope all those with their twins are going OK.... Maybe when I finish work I'll see the light at the end of the tunnel... but it's hard going just right now.

Hi girls,

I have only just joined bh. I thought this might be a good place to start to get to know some people here -

I have identical girls who are 19 months old now. There are no other twins in my family, but as you all would know, ids are just a lucky break :D. I delivered them vaginally at 37 weeks due to developing TTTS and spurious labour. I breastfed them for 9 months (was aiming for longer but got cut short as I wasn't coping physically).

We are now trying to conceive again but aren't having a lot of luck yet.

I will go back and read up about you all so you don't have to keep repeating yourselves!

Looking forward to getting to know y'all...

heh heh

I've just come back from toddler gym - I love toddler gym, its so much fun watching the girls interact with the other kids and with eachother in a different environment. They are a bit different to singles in the way they treat other kids the same age... Must be the intense time that they have had with eachother re sharing, biting, hitting, cuddling, comforting etc etc...

Hope everyone is going well.

Oh hey, Ymmy Mummy, I just wanted to reassure you about twins being oversize - mine were too, by about the same amount until quite late in the preg, but don't worry, they stop growing at the rate that singles do in the last stages of your preg so maybe they will normalise...

Sorry, I have been a bit quiet on here lately.

I'm now 29 weeks pregnant with ID twins, when I had my 27 week ultrasound they estimated the babies weight to be 1300gm and 1100gm!! OMG!! I was ecstatic that the twins are now past the 1kg mark, meaning they'll be a better chance of survival if they were born then. I wonder what their weights are now but my next ultrasound is not till 11th October.

Have been busy setting up the nursery. I have now bought the carseat, pram, cot and a tall boy, so feeling much more organised.

However, still stumped on names... :detective:

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here in a while.

Alison, my twins have the same names as yours only mine are Ashleigh and Hayleigh. Ashleigh is my little one. But they don't look alike.

There's a story for how my girls got their names. We were getting concerned about how our eldest would handle having twin sibblings. So we let her decide on the names but we told her if we didn't like them she would have to pick another name until we could agree. Lucky! Otherwise we might have been stuck with Mary-Kate and Ashley. That's what she wanted to name them! She still wishes Hayleigh was Mary-Kate but Hayleigh was her next choice. We didn't know if they were going to be girls or boys or one of each but she did. She refused to pick any boys names because they were two girls.

There birth weights were: Ashleigh 2.690kg and Hayleigh 3.180kg. (38 weeks)

I got a Peg Perego Aria Twin, we were tossing between this pram and the maclaren twin techno stroller. So we weighed up the pros and cons of both and the Peg Perego was a winner because of how compact it folded and how lightweight it was. Have you been able to locate a pram that suits a toddler too??

I know how you feel about the baby naming - it's sooo hard to choose a couple of names!! If there's anything I like, my DH doesn't like it and vice versa. However, my DH seems to have made his mind up, but that was after a few beers and without discussing it with me!! :( He wants Jake and Marty (Jacob and Martin). I'm saying no way to Martin!! Oh well, we'll keep playing with the naming side of things!! It's such fun (NOT).

My bubs are now two- oh my goodness I have two 2 yrs olds- but most of the time it's fun-

I've just started potty training them- I decided that they could just be nappiless at home (we have tiles throughout except in bedrooms)- and they have been amazing!! A few little accidents- but they seem to have to got the hang of it within a few days- of course bribing with lollies seems to have an amazing effect!!

We live in Brisbane

early labour at 33 weeks was stopped with medication and then induced a week later at 34+4 due to pre eclampsia!
both boys were delivered naturally.

Were in ICU over night as well as me, but recovered within 2 days and finally allowed to see my boys! 5 days after birth boys were transferred to children's hospita; for feeding and weight gain and after a total of 16 days in hospital were home with me!
At 6 weeks old both boys were admitted for 5 days due to poor weight gain and virus but now to very cheeky and happy almost 5 month olds!!

I booked my girls birthday party for the end of next month. I can't believe they are nearly 3!

My twins have an obsession with birthdays at the moment and every day one or the other will say it's my birthday today. Well a week ago Ashleigh said it was her birthday and I told her it will be hers and Hayleigh's birthday next month together. Well, she flopped to the ground and was totally unconsolable for ages crying " it's not fair, it's not fair". I guess it doesn't really seem fair but she will have to get used to it.

Hi everyone, I just found out 3 weeks ago at my 19wk ultrasound that I was expecting Identical twins, after 2 weeks of getting my head around the idea, I relise that it something special that does not happen to everyone and I am going to treasure every moment, But now I have been told I can no longer have them at my small town hospital, and now have to travel a bit further to bigger hospital..Im a bit scared..But happy!!!

Emsmum and Angela, welcome to BubHub.

Wow, Emsmum, imagine finding out about your twins at 19 weeks!! Did you even have an inkling that there were two in there?? What about the size of your bump?? Didn't you have a scan at 12 weeks? I found out about the twins at 8weeks. Yeah I had to change hospitals as well, because the one I wanted to go to does not do twin births.

Happy birthday to your girls Dannielle, hopefully Ashleigh will get used to the idea that they were both born on the same day so have the same birthday...

Well, I am now 32 weeks 4 days. Had a bit of a false alarm last Friday when they thought my waters had broken, but all is okay and the babies are still cooking!! ;) Still not decided on names. You'd think after the false alarm, we'd come to a decision on the names but not just yet LOL... :o

Hope all is well

25-10-2006, 11:44
Oh Kylie - I'm so glad that it was a false alarm - 32 weeks would be problematic... I know what you mean re the name thing - we chose our girls names in the car on the way to the hosp - then we had to agree on which child would be named which - ie the first one out is "B1".

Leanne - that must have been quite a surprise! I am in the country too and had to drive past two hospitals to get to one that birthed twins - it was 2 hours away from one of our residences and 4 hours away from the other. Nothing untoward happened thank god, but I did ring and talk about options in the event of an emergency - you should try to talk to someone to put in some plans etc, might make you feel better.

I am ripping my hair out about my girls at teh moment - they are being very agressive with each other - it is a really hard one to solve. Jealousy is a curse for sure. Poor mites are constantly in loggerheads, but sometimes they have the most gorgeous giggly moments.

emsmum and Angela, welcome.

Emsmum, when I found out I was expecting id twins, I cried for the first 3 weeks. It a true miracle and I wish you all the very best for the pregnancy. When are you due? It's well worth finding a hospital that has experience with twin deliveries.
Andrewsmum, welcome back. My it's been a while. Sorry about your scare and glad that all is fine again. If your babies had to be delivered now that do have a great chance of survival but the longer they cook, the better off you'll all be. Good luck and let us know how you're going.
Duchessa, jealously is a painful thing.
Danielle, happy birthday to your girls.

Just a quick update, all is stable with my babies. It looks like for the moment that TTTS has resolved itself and at the moment :fingerscrossed: I'm having a normal twin pregnancy. I hope to hang onto them for as long as possible.

I have a question though, how much rest should I be getting during the day and how do you achieve that with a toddler who doesn't have daytime naps anymore?

Speak to you soon.

Angela-welcome.

Emsmum-Wow, what a shock it would have been to find out you are having twins at 19 weeks! I knew for sure at 7 weeks but they were IVF and was told they might be at only 4 weeks.

Andrewsmum-I'm sorry about your scare and I'm glad everything is ok. I couldn't decide on DD1's name until I saw her. Every name I suggested DH said yes to. I was so confused because I liked so many names and he was no help at all! With the twins I had a general anaesthetic and DH asked me in recovery which one should be which!

Shajake-I'm glad things are stable for you. You asked how to get rest during the day. My DD1 was 4 and a half when my twins were born and ok I'm going to sound terrible here but when my mum couldn't help me out I resorted to the TV. But, I had an awful pregnancy and had a huge painful blood clot from my belly button all the way down to my ankle and had to use crutches and then a walking stick just to get around for a while. So, if I needed a rest then I put on one of the favourite videos saved just for that purpose. It worked for me but then again she was 4 and a half.

Dushessa-I love the giggly moments. We had one of those OTHER moments today which ended with Ashleigh in tears and a big bump on her nose.

Kadownie-Are you potty training them together? I wasn't that brave but then again I have carpets.

I have just decided it's time to night time train them. This morning I found Hayleigh in different undies and PJ's but asleep on a wet bed with the wet stuff on the floor. Miss independent!

andrewsmum
30-10-2006, 22:52
I have a question though, how much rest should I be getting during the day and how do you achieve that with a toddler who doesn't have daytime naps anymore?

Glad to hear your TTTS is stable for the time being! As for the rest thingy, there have been times where I've put on a video for DS and dozed off (either intentionally or accidentally) only to find when I wake up that DS has been up to mischief. Or perhaps, he was only trying to help?? He's made jelly with water and soap, he's tried to make coffee with the coffee plunger but spilt it all over the floor, and his most recent activity was to empty the hand wash soap down the toilet making a frothy mess. :o Guess who has had to clean it up each time

My doctors are telling me to rest as much as possible. (which is hard in itself most days!!) So I try to relax on the lounge while DS watches a video or on DS's bed in his room while he plays. However, I'm guilty of cleaning the bathroom or clearing out the cupboards instead of taking it easy LOL...

Dannielle - Hayleigh does sound like she's Miss Independent!! Good luck with the night time toilet training. I have only just been successful in getting DS out of daytime nappies two months ago, so he still has accidents from time to time. Certainly not ready for night time training just yet as his nappies are always wet in the morning! He'll be three in December. So your girls are doing well!:yelclap:

Oh guys I'm really sorry for going MIA the last few months. Hoping someone else will take over the list demands *hint hint* as I don't think I'll be able to keep up with the happenings. I'm a mod for the multiple section on another popular aussie forum and that takes up pretty much all my spare time.

Sooooooooo sorry :o

So whoever steps forth and wants to take over, be my guest

Btw my twins are doing fine. We're teething at the moment. Always a joyous time :banghead:
Apart from that they're good, I'm good and expecting another baby in July

I saw my doctor today and he did internal. Which I have just found out is called a stretch and sweep, never heard it called that before. He said that my cervix is very soft and I am about 2cm dilated already. I have had a few pain, but they come and go. So I hope this will bring on the twins.

If not he has booked me in for inducement, with the balloon. But this is not until next Wednesday the 20th, this time next week!

So any ideas on how to bring these twins on would be a great help.

Chat with you all later.

Sorry I've also been MIA the past month or so!

I gave birth to Hayden and Jake, on the 22nd November at 36 weeks and 5 days. I was actually due for an elective c/section on the 24th at 37 weeks, but developed pre-eclampsia.

Both boys are doing OK, at birth they weighed 2.9kg and 2.2kg. Now with breastfeeding (and the odd bottle or two) they weigh 3.2 and 2.6 kg so they have grown heaps since they were born 3.5 weeks ago!!

Been thinking of you Angela, yummy mummy of 5, good luck on the impending arrivals!! Take it easy.

How are all our twins and more?? I can't wait for Christmas!! The boys had their Santa photo (as you can see) and they only recognised him from the Wiggles video! Very cute, coz now when they watch Wiggles, they get really excited when they see Santa and point to their photo.

I'm organising an early scan for Freckles, just to double check it's not doubles again. (and if it is I have time to get a bigger car)

Hi Girls!

How were all our Christmases???
Mine was FULL ON, but I haven't come here to vent, so I'll leave that for another thread.

I was playing with the boys today and had this thought... I LOVE having twins. I love it love it love it! I love the way they play together, I love the way they play with me, I love the way they'll 'talk' in the morning in their cots, I love the way they won't go down for naps because they'll be too busy throwing their teddy bears across to each other. I love the way they share their food, and swap their cutlery, I love the way they 'negotiate' things. I even don't mind the squabbles, becasue at the core of it they are still best friends. I love that they'll always have a closest friend in their brother.

AND, I'm praying that Freckles is only one. Coz I don't wanna share this time :p

Hope everyone has an EXCELLENT New Year. Good Luck with those resolutions!

Hi Ladies,

I am sorry for being MIA. I would like to let you know that I gave birth to two beautiful boys (Ben and Matthew) on Thursday 21-12-06. Their birth weights were 1850grams and 1350grams. They are in special care and so between milk runs, expressing and doing all the other things that need to get done, I thought I would jump online and let you all know.

Now that I've finished expressing, I'm off to bed till I need to get up at 4am to express again.

I hope everyone has a safe and prosperous new year.

My boys are growing up too fast!! They're getting out of the newborn stage :( but I can't wait for the first smiles (which is taking its time coming). One of them isn't well at the moment, think it's reflux but will check with the ECN when she comes over tomorrow.

Two more weeks!! Just hang in there! Your boys look good in your avatar! They must be doing well, although smallish but they'll grow up quickly. :)

Hi ladies,

I can see it has been awhile since posting but I will pop up my details.

Name: Bec
Children: DD Ruby and two cooking
Conception: FET cycle following IVF (Dr gave me a 1-2% chance of twins, and here they are)
Due date: August 14th

It has been rocky already and I am very big for 13 weeks (look about 20). But am started to relax and enjoy the pregnancy a bit more, after a large heamorrhage at 6 weeks. There 12 week scan was delightful with two gorgeous looking little bubbas Valentine.

Anyway most of you have welcomed your twins so it will be great to have that wealth of info.

Why do people feel the need to make negative comments when they find out it twins? I think it is a blessing that will have a few extra challenges with my 3 all being under 2 for awhile.

Hi everybody!

Hi BecH, isnt it exciting????!!!!!!! How did your scan go???? Boys or girls??? Well I had my 28 week scan last week and all is going well for my baby girls! Evie is 1090 grams and Pearl is 1026 grams very healthy weights so that is a big relief!

My diabetes is going crazy and i have been put onto insulin which is not really helping right now so not very happy about that!

I spoke to a lovely lady today from AMBA who gave me a lot of useful info regarding groups in my area which is awesome, I will be going and meeting some mums 11 april and am looking forward to it. She was just so lovely and helpful, it really enlightened me and i highly recommend giving them a call to any expectant mummies.

She also told me about a program i am about to get help from. In home care for the first three months for free!!!!! Awesome!

Hope everyone is well:hugs:

I'm sorry, I have been a bit quiet on here lately. But I have been a bit busy with the twins and Isabelle also started kinder this year too. Felicity and Nicholas are 14 weeks old now can you believe it. The time has gone by so fast. I am b-feeding both of them and they are doing very well putting heaps of weight on. And they are also sleeping right through the night now, thank god. So right now everyone else is asleep but me. Think I need a warm milk and honey, so on that note I will go and chat with you all later, good night.

Niki, How did the U/S go?
polypatch, congratulations on the birth of your twin girls. How are you going?
Cheeki28, try and keep them to the same routine. Mine sleep and eat at the same time. When 1 wakes I wake the other and when 1 is sleepy I encourage the other to sleep. It doesn't always work but within 30 minutes of one going to sleep, generally the other will go to sleep and then get up at the same time. Just for your sanity you may like to think about it.

They have just started to sleep through, they both go to bed at 10:00 and wake up at about 6ish. We bath them at night and they sleep in the same cot. And if one wakes for a feed I will wake up the other too.

Hi Yummy Mummy of 5 and everyone else!
I am so excited I am starting to figure out how these forum things work!! Sorry.
Yes my husband and I have 2 sets of twins -
Joshua & Harrison - turning 4 on 23rd april.
Maddison & Jessica 18 momths.
They are the joys of my life, but a lot of hard work is involved as all of you know.
My goodness reading all the previous posts brings back memories about pregancy, feeding, settling and the sleepless nights etc. :crying:
Would love to exchange messages with you all, only parents of multiples really know what it's like.

Hi everyone:wave:
Hi mumtwinsx2 I to am just trying to get my head around this forum business.
Congratulations on having 2 sets of twins.
I have a DS - 3yo and B/B - 18months.
Do your boys get along well with your girls most of the time? I know all siblings are going to have there moments but I was just curious as to because the boys have each other do they tend to leave the girls to do there own thing as they also have each other? My DS seems to be always fighting with one or the other and i'm wondering if its because they have each other and he feels left out and also sometimes abit intimidated.
Does anybody know if it is true that once you have one set of twins your chances increase dramatically of having twins again? Alot of times when people have asked me if I am going to have any more babies and I say yeh maybe they always tend to say "what are you going to do if you have twins again, your chances are greater after you've already had one multiple birth" Fact or Fiction does anybody know?
I sometimes think that its just a fluke if you have multiples as another thing I have heard a hundred times is that twins are supposed to skip a generation, yet my twins are 3rd generation twins, their dad is a twin and their mum is a twin.
I look forward to getting to know everybody.:)

Hi Ali & Mel,
I have been told that if you have a singleton pregnancy first then have a set a twins you are not as likely to have more twins. But if like me you have a set of twins first then you are more likely to have more multilpes each pregnancy. I am not about to test this theory as I do not want to risk having another set plus I had my tubes clamped when I had my second set via cs. My kids do generally get along, they fight and snatch toys off each other all the time but most of the time the boys (about to turn 4) play outside and the girls (18 months) have the run of the house with me. The girls only go outside when I'm there to supervise. :shame: Anyway great to hear from you all. Hope to chat again soon. You can ask me any questions or queries I love to help people out.
Bye from Megan. :p

Hi Leanne  It is definitely a shock when you find out your expecting twins, especially if it is your second pregnancy. I have a 3 year old DS and 19month twin boys and when I found out I was expecting twins although I was very excited and happy I was a little scared aswell, wondering how I (or rather eldest DS Corey) was going to handle one new addition was one thing but having two babies was a whole new story. But although at times it is very exhausting and alot of hard work it is also Fantastic!
As far as the outings go I do the same as you I do any shopping or running around I need to do on the days Corey is at pre-school, not only is it easier only having to push the twin pram and not have to worry about Corey running off but he tends to be a typical male and absolutely hates shopping already. When we all do venture to the shops Corey used to sit on a seat at the front of the twin pram (geez does that grab everybodies attention, its massive) but now I have a wrist lead thingy that he and I both wear because the hard thing is with the sizes of some of the twin prams around if he runs off sometimes you cant manouver the pram quick enough or into certain spots to catch him.
Have you got the twins into a routine of doing things at the same time or do you prefer to do feeds, sleep etc seperate?
I have rambled on enough I suppose :ecomcity:
I look forward to chatting to you.

I pretty much do things together, I feed them one after the other or if they cant wait for each other, I find my daughters foam fold up lounge, real handy I sit them both sitting up on each corner and feed them at the same time the only thing with that is if one wants to burp and the other wants to drink. The thing I have had to learn is it is ok for them to cry, I used to get a bit upset when they would both cry and I could only attend to one at a time, I spose it will be a learning game for a long time!:)

Emsmum, you sound like you're doing a great job, well done and keep it up. My boys are 41/2 months and I feed together. I invested in a twin feeding pillow from Clark rubber and they feed on that.

welcome back DoubleDelight, I to have 19month old twin boys and a elder DS3. They certainly keep you busy dont they. I am also from the hunter. How is being back at work full time, and how is your DP liking being a SAHD? No offence to my DH but I think he would be back at work after one day.
See you all around soon

Hi Mel

I really enjoy the mental stimulations from being back f/t and I'm loving my new work colleagues (transferred here from Sydney office) but I do find that I'm missing the munchkins. DP is great but is a bit slack on telling mummy the new things that they do. I'll see them do something new and get all excited and he'll turn around and say oh yeah they've been doing that for the last week, sorry forgot to tell you.

He does find it a bit isolating because he doesn't know anyone up here but he loves spending time with the kids. He still isn't really up to speed on the housework yet:rolleyes:

Whereabouts in the Hunter are you?

mum23boys
10-05-2007, 13:40
I can understand where your coming from when you say you are enjoying the mental stimulation. When my DS was about 6months old I went back to work a couple of days a week for that reason. Its hard missing them do new things.
Im from Cardiff South. Where are you?

DoubleDelight
10-05-2007, 14:00
I'm at East Maitland but grew up on Lake Macquarie. Mum & Dad are at Belmont North and have a brother at Fishing Point.

Do your twins fight amongst themselves & do you have one that is more dominant than the other?

mum23boys
10-05-2007, 14:24
They certainly do fight! Their older brother is normally amongst it aswell.
At the moment Lucas who is the younger twin is the boss as far as toys and stuff go, if Nicholas has a toy Lucas will just walk up make a noise at Nicholas and just take it and Nicholas just takes it in his stride and moves on to something else. But in saying that they tend to change from time to time. Nicholas started out as the more dominant of the two but at the moment his not. Do your twins bite each other? It started off as just Nick was abit of a biter when he needed to defend himself but now Lucas bites back. I am having a really hard time stopping them. If one doesn't like something the other has just done like take a toy etc he will just go in for a bite. They also try to bite Corey (older brother). A couple of people have said to me that I will have to bite them back to teach them that its not nice, but I just can't bring myself to do it.
I used to live up that way at Tarro its near Beresfield. Are you likeing it where you are?
It will be good to exchange information and stories seeing as our twins are the same age.

DoubleDelight
10-05-2007, 15:13
We have had the whole biting thing and although it has started to tail off thank god. Taea is our dominant twin, she always has been, Bailey is only now starting to stand his ground a little but he is a really easygoing little boy so nothing really phases him.

We're still getting to know the area but after being in Sydney for so long it really is wonderful and the kids are thriving.

I'm so not looking forward to toilet training

Shajake: how is Jake adjusting to having two baby brothers? My eldest DS is 3 and my twin boys are 19months and I know he still finds it very frustrating at times.

mum23boys
12-05-2007, 07:48
Hi guys,
Cheeki28 your DS will probably get his nose out of joint for a while. My DS was 19months when my twins were born and in my personal experience he didn't adjust to it all very well. In saying that your DS may handle it all fine. I also would do things a little different if I had my time again. From the first day of bringing the twins home my DS seemed to be always getting told No this and No that.
And one of the things that I pick up on now is obviously he got abit jealous of the attention they were getting at home and out and about, for instance when we are all out shopping people stop you and admire the twins and some just totally ignore older DS and then others will go ohh aren't you lucky to have two baby brothers and its like he would be thinking NO i'm not lucky at all they are taking my mummy away from me. So if somebody stops us in the shops now to fuss over the twins and they ask what their names are etc I will say and this is Corey not this is the older brother Corey just this is Corey. Does any of that make sense?
I used a playpen from a very young age. Just so I had peace of mind if I needed to leave the room for a second that he wasn't going to try and pick them up or try to help in anyway that might actually back fire. So yes my suggestion to you is invest in a play pen. And as you said so they aren't taking your DS toys they can have their space and he can have his untill they are all ready to try the whole playing nicely together. Valentine
I hope this all makes sense and that some of it helps, every case is different.

Shajbm
12-05-2007, 23:32
cheeki28, it certainly does fly and it does seem that just yesterday we were swapping ideas about pregnancy.
Doubledelight, I hope you're right, some days I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
mum23boys, Jake has handled it all remarkably well considering. I have tried to involve him in everything that I/we do with Ben and Matthew. Like he helped me change a nappy or two today. Also when we go for a walk or shopping he sits on the pram and is actually quite protective of them, not letting strangers touch, but happy to introduce them. I think I'll be investing in a playpen.

Hi, although I have introduced myself on another thread, I thought I would say g'day here as I am also a new mother to twins. Well they're 7 months now so not so new. Time has flown!

So twins makes 4 under 6. DD1 is 6, DD2 is 2 (turns 3 in Aug) and twins were born 27.9.06 at 37 and a half weeks by c/s.

My husband travels heaps and heaps so its just me, the kids and this computer a lot of the time.

I am very excited to find this site to chat to people. It really is a breath of fresh air like I know you all are!

Have a fantastic day.

Hello Kylie. Thanks for the welcome msg. Gee you must be flat out! 6 is a big number. Well done.
We were so completely shocked to find out we were having twins as we were still in the discussional stage of having #3. We had two little girls and I kinda wanted to try for a boy but DH wasn't phased, in fact was leaning towards having 2 and 2 only. Anyway, a very short time later the twins were conceived. I stressed quite a lot during the pregnancy looking back. There were lots of negatives out there!
Anwyay they were born last September. Perfectly healthy and are just fantastic. A wonderful addition to our lives. They are quite different, one is bigger than the other and they're different in personality too.
Well gr8 meeting and chatting to you. Take care of you and your little ones!

Welcome, busymumof4. My DH travels a fair bit as well so I hear you re doing it tough and on your own. Do you get much help?

22-05-2007, 21:57
Hi everyone,

Shajake, yeah it is pretty tough at times with 4 littlies and not a lot of shared care as I like to call it. But we do the best with what we've got don't we. They are good kids. Bed time's a little stressful!

My MIL looks after them heaps and helps with getting my eldest to school. I also have a mum from school take her too sometimes and she catches the bus home so we stay in the cabin all day most days pretty much.
I have a red x volunteer help on Wednesdays. So i go out! She's an angel! Has 4 of her own would you believe.

Well from one busy mum to another good night x
