to receive a random PM from a member with no posts telling me to scan my computer because there is virus activity on it?. They kindly provided a link(which I didn't click on ). Was also told they would report my lack of action to my internet provider? Is this spam? or is someone doing me a favour:) I have no idea as my technology skill are rather delayed. I did report the post.
YES its spam .. we would NEVER EVER send you a PM with a link in it ..
NEVER EVER click on a link if you aren't certain..
you can also report PMs to the moderators now .. there is a ! in the top right hand corner.

Did Cliff Richard write to you?
So disappointing it wasn't a good samaritan trying to help a girl out with her internet connection.
Shall go an delete now.
What is the point of these sorts of messages? If you open the link does it let viruses in or are you pressured to buy soemthing?

No worries, I'm a pretty gullible person myself so surprised I actually questioned it:yes:

Mitake 99.9% of the time they are viruses. I never open a link unless i know the sender personally.
VERY dodgy. I have had a few dodgy PM's. Veve is right, they are getting VERY sly...
it's a bit of both Mitake.. They install a virus on your PC and then insist you have to buy their software to remove it.. Dodgy as hell.

Just a thought, but is there a way to make it so that newbies cannot post links either in their sig, their posts, or their PM's? Maybe a trial period of, say, a week or two, before alowing such posts would deter all those spammers who sign up and instantly start bombarding people and threads with links to their paid blog or product website?

Yup it's most likely linked to a virus. Do a full computer virus scan to make sure it's wiped!

We make one change to see if that would deter these morons who register purely to send spam pms, but it didn't deter them all! So we are going to do something like you suggest above so that newbies can't send pms.
Hopefully that will be activated within the next couple of days.
I wish these people had something better, and more constructive, to do with their time...
