We just celebrated DS' 3rd birthday on the 8th Feb and we had a party at a park (on Sun 7th) which has a fenced in playground. We were really lucky with the weather because it rained on the weekends either side. It was fairly informal with no games or anything but everyone enjoyed themselves and I baked plenty of party food and enlisted a bit of help with the catering from my mum, sister and her SIL. Not sure what the weather is usually like where you are in April, but there's one idea.

what you have so far sounds pretty good. i guess you could go with a theme (Lighting McQueen/Car etc) and decorate in that way including the cake. is he into something? my 3yr old loves Disney's cars and The Nightgarden so if we were to do a party, i would have themed it that way (balloons, cake, plates, hats etc)

oh, ok I didn't read it properly

This is the food I had at DS' party

The birthday cake
choc brownies
fairy bread
honey joys
dips and crackers
mars bar slice
watermelon and grapes platter
+ drinks (water, diet soft drink and lemonade)

....I feel like I'm forgetting something, but I think that was it. We didn't have a huge crowd, but did invite my whole mothers group and a few family members. There was just a little bit of food left, which indicated that there was just enough food but not too much.

Oh, and I bought doggy bag containers (the aluminium ones that come with cardboard lids) to put portions of the birthday cake in so that I didn't have to take all the cake home and eat it ourselves.

Anyway, there are a few ideas for food :)

hiring a castle and a clown is a great idea if you want that kind of thing :) At 3 years old I wouldn't worry too much about games. If you really wanted to maybe pass the parcel or pin the tail on the donkey or a treasure hunt?
