View Full Version : No difference in size and shape of X and Y sperm
I came across this and found it quite interesting and leads me to think no merit in that Y sperm is faster/short lived and X sperm is slower/longer lived
Apologies if this has already been shared.
Thanks. Very interesting
That is a very interesting article. I saw a documentary recently on ABC and the reproduction specialists were even saying that the Y sperm were faster etc etc.
Bascially it's 50/50 for either. That's good to know. End of the day you can hope for one gender over the other, but far better than that is a healthy little baby.
Thanks again for sharing that link.
I've been thinking about this a lot. I really would like to know one way or the other if you can sway gender. I personally would like to not sway gender, knowingly or unknowingly. At this stage at least. I like the idea of it being 50/50 chance, what will be will be kinda thing.
I find the whole thing very confusing. Most places say the ods are 1:1, although i think it's officially 105 boys: 100 girls, so ever so slightly more likely to get a boy. I find it confusing that that's the official stats but then there are all these so called variables that could give you an X or a Y rather than just 105:100 odds.
And all these theroies like shettles are based on the idea that the Y sperm is smaller, which I no longer agree with. I think this is backed up by microsort which sorts by lighting up the DNA (and it is proven that there is more DNA in X than Y) rather than by size/shape since there is no difference in that regard. And if there is no difference is size and shape - how can Y be faster than X? And how can X live longer than Y? I would think it is so miniscule to not be a factor.
I am also interested in this PH business where Y likes an alkeline environment and X likes a more acidic environment. Does anyone have any scientific proof of this? I see it ALL OVER the net but I cannot locate any legitmate scientifc journals or really reputable sites to give me comfort on the theory. Can anyone help me here - I would like to know for sure if PH is a factor or not. I would be grateful for any scientific proof you may have located.
I also think "OK if it really is 50/50 how come some faimlies have 10 boys and others have 10 girls" but then I think "hey I have played roulette before and seen black rolled 15 times" - and that is 50/50 odds too and PH doesnt even come into that! (that i know of anyway! lol)
I just find it strange that this area can't be more certain. It just seems like a whole heap of theories, most of which contradict each other.
Im with you on that, I just dont think there would be such a site I wish there was, just like health supplements and natural alternatives, drs dont want you to beleive that they can help cancers and illnesses, well same goes with gender selection theories. I think its worth trying the timing and perhaps trying to make yourself more alkaline or acidic depending on the gender you would prefer :flowerz:
