hi all,
just wondering if any mums have a partner/husband who is circumcised and their child is not?
how and when did you explain the difference to them?? (not your husband, your child :))
did it cause any problems?
thanks

Hi
My sons dad is circumsized and my son isn't. I have never had to explain anything because since my son has been old enough to understand the difference between the two of them he hasn't actually seen his dad naked. He is 14 now and knows he is not circumsized and dosn't give it any thought.
I never saw my dad naked.
my son has not seen me naked.
If he did, and if he noticed and if he cared that he is not cut, I would say that I have had a normal and healthy part of me cut away because it used to be the fashion, and that I wouldnt let anyone cut normal and healthy parts off of my son.
I think this is sometimes used as a reason for circumcision, (worried about being different from his dad), the only person that might be worried is the dad himself, perhaps he feels inadequate next to his complete son. There are some interesting psychological explanation for why the father wants his son to be like him, but i really think that the kid couldnt care less.
It is believable that he would want to be like his peers, but to say the boy might be worried about not looking like his dad, i think is really an excuse for the dad being worried about the kid not looking like him.
Circumcision included, there are no scars that I have, that I would want my son to have also.
My DH is circumcised and my DS is not.
I told hubby that it was up to him and much like what andrewj said, hubby said "for what reason other than myself would i cut it off? none.... so it stays, its normal"
We decided that he will probably ask one day why he and his daddy are different and we will tell him that some people do one thing and some do another and all in all it means nothing and that he is not to worry about it....
We can go into it as much as he wants or will understand at the time.
Good luck with your decision making
