View Full Version : Nutella - How Do You Eat Yours?

As I sit here indulging in what's always been a nasty habit of mine - eating cold Nutella straight out of the jar with a spoon - I began to wonder how the rest of you eat your lovely brown goo, if you eat it that is.

This isn't a pregnancy thing, I've done this my entire life much to the disgust of my parents, some friends and my DH. I probably go through a jar a week - sometimes more. Do any of you do this as well or do you eat it in a different way?

I haven't had nutella for years!
But I would eat it straight out of the jar. I think it tastes wrong on bread.

After seeing your thread i went and got the jar and started eating it with a spoon..... thankfully im the only one that eats it at my place (just me and DF) so i can multiple-dip without a worry in the world!!

i do both  (but i voted eat with a spoon because thats what i do more often these days)

although my dad double dips, so lately i haven't been having any, unless i can keep a jar hidden from him :( its super annoying, and i know i shouldn't be touchy about sharing germs. but its just icky and makes my chocolate less enjoyable

Straight out of the jar with a spoon. I like it on toast too, but mostly with a spoon. Yum.

I don't buy it. We've only had it once, and it wasn't even Nutella, it was the Sweet Williams chocolate spread. Dairy free, egg free, nut free, and less sugar than other chocolate. But it's a little out of our price range so it was just a one-off treat and it was used with puff pastry to make chocolate scrolls :chef:

I voted other.....

I have an adult onset nut allergy, but i used to love nutella! I'd eat it on toast, or on a thick slice of white bread....yummy!!

I must be the only one who HATES Nutella :o but I do buy it for the kids for on bread only, I once caught them with a spoon in the jar and banned them from it for 3 mnths.

It is weird on bread - but its great on toast I think.

I've had it at someone elses place where she used it as icing for a cake

I LOVE nutella.

I have nutella sandwiches, nutella on toast, nutella on lebanese bread, nutella on saos, nutella on rice cakes, nutella straight from the jar, nutella with strawberries.

Theres probably more but thats all I can think of for now.

I love Nutella - it's so versatile! On toast with banana smooshed on top, out of the jar with a spoon, on ice cream...

But it has to be the original! I've tried a few spreads that are only poor imitations of the real thing, and they were NASTY!!! :p

:iagree: definately no substitute for the real deal!

When I was backpacking through Italy I lived off Nutella! The Nutella gelato you could get over there was heaven in a bowl! :bee:

I'm a secret Nutella on a spoon eater. DF is horrified if I do it so I have to make myself a Nutella sandwich (with an inch of Nutella on each slice of bread!) and then sneak a few spoonful into my mouth while he isn't looking!

The kids and I eat it on toast and son loves his nutella sandwhiches.

While I would love to eat it off a spoon I can't cause if the kids saw me doing that there would be no stopping them.

On bread is my favourite, but I will also eat it with a spoon.

We haven't bought any in years though. I've gone off chocolate.

Well last night we had it on croissants with cream and strawberries but that was valentines day!:skywriter:

I really like it on crunchy seey grain toast.:)

Otherwise I like to stick the jar in the fridge so it goes kind of hard and grab a spoonful.:D

Me too

IMO it is wasted if you spread it on anything (though spread on DH is the exception;))

We don't have it... I don't want DD eating it.

If I WAS to eat it for whatever reason though, it would be out of the jar. I think it tastes gross ON things.

Out of the jar! Tastes so good. Cut only when it is cold, I hate it when it gets all gooey.
Tastes good on toast too.
I miss Nutella.

I voted other. Meaning, I don't eat it at all (not by choice though :( stupid dairy-free diet!).

When I did eat it, I usually ate it with a spoon, but sometimes on bread. Had to be uber-fresh white bread though! :D

I am actually really shocked that so many of you eat it straight out of the jar!!!!!!!

Since the age of about 12 my mum has been telling me this is a bad habit and my DH always used to say (when we first started dating) that he'd never seen anyone eat it straight from the jar!! I'm honestly very, very relieved that I'm not the only one with this "problem" :D

And I agree - nutella used in cooking is pure love ♥♥♥ Nutella Pie is something my friend has been making for years. It's a little rich for me (he puts a layer of caramel under the nutella topping) but nonetheless it's very nice!

oh gosh .. why waste good nutella by putting it on bread .. ick ick ick .. I hate it on bread ..

I do eat it straight from a jar .. BUT .. I voted other .. because one of my FAVOURITE ways to eat it (and its not good for the waistline) is to get two biscuits .. tiny teddies are awesome ... you get one tiny teddy .. put an amount of nutella on there that is about the same size as the teddy (dont scrimp .. ) and then sandwich another teddy on top .. pop it straight into your mouth . mmmmmmmmmmmmm

a workmate and I used to sit at morning tea and eat .. umm a few of the teddies like that .. not good for you .. but AWESOME on a stressful day

OMG I love this thread! Nutella out of the jar was my secret shame... I don't ever buy it anymore as I seriously can't resist it :o

I've got one to add to the mix though... I preferred it off a plastic spoon, one of those hard Tupperware jobs. There is nothing else in the world I would choose to eat off a plastic spoon, just Nutella :o:o:o

Dont hold me to this, but my mum who researches everything healthy. Told me it was band in Sweeden they will not sell it as its trans fat levels are so high.

Though I love it straight out of the jar after it has been in the fridge

I thought transfats was an animal fat thing ... I dont have a jar to check the ingredients ...

I knew it wasn't good for you ... ... but then everything we eat/ touch these days will kill you (or so they say)

Ooh, this got me Googling! This is what I found...
Trans Fats
In Australia Ferrero reformulated Nutella in 2006 to reduce trans fat to less than 0.5%. This was done by substituting hydrogenated oil to palm oil which is a form of edible vegetable oil. (http://nutella.com.au/products/ingredients/)

Re PP, trans fats are unsaturated fats; they are not essential and have no nutritional value. Trans fats can be from animal or vegetable (vegetable oil is a big culprit).

Right Pinky Vanilla.... I IS MAD

Since the beginning of this silly thread i NOW am addicted to NUTELLA with TINY TEDDIES dipped in....

My kids saw me do it and now ask for TEDDYROOS...yes cheap skates version of dunkaroos.....YOU PINKY have cost me 4 packs of tiny teddies and 2 packs of 12 nutella this week ( not to mention my increasing waist line) :shame::shame::shame::devil6:

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

THANKS :)

Pinkzy

JJ :gloomy::gloomy: I hear you, I too have devoured too many tidy teddies that have been swimming in the big pool of brown delicious goo that I like to call Nutella over the last day. I went through a BOX of TT's though as well as a small jar of Nutella! My bump soon won't be able to take anymore :chef:

Well done on the Teddyroos though - they may be a cheaper form of dunkaroos *cough - overrated anyway* but they'd sure taste better!

I am glad to have been of assistance in this new snack for you and your kids...however I apologise for my influence on your waistline. It's not my fault though it's Ferrero's - they make the stuff, it's all their fault :devil6:
