I am having my first lap this wednesday and am nervous as all hell

any tips to calm my nerves?

does it hurt?
anything I should know before I go in?
Do you have to stay overnight or can I come home after?

Any good outcomes from a lap that you care to share?

I think I need re-assurance this is going to be forward with our TTC as it's now over 4 years and we are still where we started

hi there
its been so long since i had my lap i am pretty foggy on the details but i can say the only painfull thing was having the pre surgery needles and some cramping after (nothing worse than bad period pain) i went home after mine and i could have been up and at work the next day but took 3 days off to get hubby to look after me! :O

I had my lap on the 1st Feb so it's still fresh.

I was very nervous as I've never had surgery before. Everyone is different in how they respond. i waas fine. When I was in recovery they gave me heat packs to put on the op site and I found that, that really helped. I don't do so well on anestetics. I tend to throw up so I had to have an injection for that.

My recovery was fine no worries the site itself was a little tender but nothing a couple of coedene pills couldn't fix (the anastesiologist will prescribe them for you).

Mine was done on the Monday and in all seriousnes I could have gone back to work on the Wednesday but seeing as I had a medical certificate to cover me till the following Monday I used it.

Make sure you have some heat packs at home in case you need them. Some ladies get pain in their shoulder from the gass they pump into your stomach and the heat packs help.

Good luck you will be fine.

If you have heat packs use them on your shoulder and if possible move around. Moving around will help the gass leave your systm more quickly or so I was told. I didn't have any pain after my lap.

I'm glad it is all good. It sux having unexplained infertility but at least you now have a plan so you can move on.

Are you planing on doing IVF first or are you thinking of giving IUI a go?

I'm giving IUI a go before we do IVF. Can't hurt and much cheaper. I know the success rates aren't high but it can still be successful. :fingerscrossed: anyway.

Hi thanks for your reply

we have done one round of iui however after we spoke to many one round ivf has same success rate and out of pocket expense of A few months of iui

we are going to go to the gyno follow up appointment and see exact what was seen then will take all of this to new fertility dr

we are changing from city fertility to monash ivf to get another opinion on infertility

Hi greenapple. Just read your posts on the laparoscopy, I have a tentative endo diagnosis after going to a gastroenterologist for bad stomach & bowel pain. Did they tell you if there are any risks to your fertility by having the lap done?

It's actually really good for fertility as it opens all your tubes up. You have a high chance of falling pregnant for up to 6months after a lap.
