Baby potatoes & baby onions cooked with the silverside, steamed pumpkin, carrots & peas and its gotta be with Continental Cheese sauce. We're having it tonight! YUM!!!
at the start of a silverside day I dice up some onion and put it in a glass, cover them in vinegar and cover that with glad wrap and leave it sit, then I add that to my mashed potato :D
And also some vegies on the side.. and some parsley sauce

Mine must ALWAYS have with it: potato bake and steamed cabbage and carrot. I sometimes do a green vege too, broccoli usually. But must always have potato bake and cabbage at a minimum.
you know, I could do with a bit of steamed cabbage on beside my silverside.....
We just have the usual potato, peas and carrots. Boring to me, but DH loves it!

I have to have mashed spuds and cabbage cooked in butter so that is just catches and goes brown - YUMMO!!! Then any other vegies...
Mum always put the carrots in with the meat for the last bit but I find them too salty.

We just had this tonight! Mashed tatie is a must, and carrots, cauliflower, and peas/beans usually get served up too. White sauce would be good too, but i just can't get it right, and the bought ones taste :barf: .

Oh... same way you would cook it any other time? but with ginger ale? Will give it a go! (chris' favourite meal is silverside!)
My mum always served it with carrots, cabbage and mashed spuds...then again the next night cold with a salad.
I've never cooked one...How do you guys cook it? My mum does some really smelly creation with golden syrup, vinegar and who knows what else, smells horrible :barf: taste not bad, but I have tasted better.

Great ideas guys  especially the ginger ale cooking method by shae_mia. Have to give that one a go too when I make it next.
I usually cook it with water, orange peel, brown sugar, onion, black peppercorns. We don't have it often as I tend to go with the traditional roast dinners more so, but DH likes corn silverside. I think the last time I made it, which was some time ago now, I did roast veggies and peas/carrots :o I think the mashed spuds and veggies will be better next time and some white sauce with parsley

I agree with almost everyone, it hass to be acomponied by a white sauce, (i use Maggi Tasty Cheese Sauce) or a pepper sauce.then what even vegetables to personal taste.......my partner likes the white sauce cooked with fresh mushrooms through it....

this will sound real dumb, but how do i cook silverside???
mum used to serve it with mashed potatoes, carrots and a white cheese sauce... yummo
Having it for dinner tonight - with potatoes, carrots and brussels sprouts!!! yum.
It would be one of our favourite meals. I put the meat in to boil with 1 cup vinegar, cloves, peppercorns and an onion. Halfway I chuck in the carrots and potatoes and another onion for DH.
I know packets are easier - but homemade white sauce is so much better for silverside.
If you need the instructions:
2 tbls butter - melt, then add 1 tbls plain flour and mix then another tbls plain flour and mix I then take it of the heat to add the next 2 tbls plain flour.
I put back on the heat and add a little milk bit by bit to melt the flour/butter into it and the gradually add teh rest of the milk up to 600ml. You need to keep stirring and as it thickens turn the heat down. When making the sauce for silverside I *** 2 tsp of Keens Mustard Powder which makes it really yummy. I do use a whisk to stir with once the inital milk as been added.

I usually do mine in the slowcooker. The regular method is... cover with water, add a little brown sugar about 1 tbls, 1/2 cup malt vinegar, throw in some cloves and bay leaves. You can also do it on the stove, slowly bring the saucepan to the boil and then reduce to simmer. Cover and cook until well done usually allow 40mins per 500g of silverside.
I always serve mine with creamy garlic mash potatos, steamed broccoli, carrots and home made white sauce. I cook my carrots with the meat, just throw in the chunks about 45mins before it's done and they take on the flavour of the meat, oh so yummo :chef:
We just had this on Saturday night!
Bare minimum - potatoes carrots and onions cooked in the water with the meat. I always make extra cos I lurrrve potatoes made that way!
Then greens and white sauce. But I like the sauce on the cheesy side and DP doesn't... on Sat I was too tired to make it and DP said "no complaints here!" :p
