I think this is where i should post this :o
We are going up to QLD after christmas & was wanting opinions on the cheapest way to travel. We were going to drive but the car should be serviced before & with the price of petrol
We have access to a car up there as we will be staying with the in-laws & can use their car as long as we drop FIL off at work & pick him up.
So yeah, from Sydney (well close enough, the Central coast), should be drive or fly?
Thanks

So long as you can get a good deal, flying is probably cheapest. DH and I love road trips, but sometimes when you've only got a limited amount of time, flying gives you more time to spend with your loved ones, family & friends etc.
I fly Virgin to Newcastle to visit my wonderful friend as often as I can. Sometimes I can score a return flight for about $90. No way could you drive down (from Brisbane) for that.
Word of warning though, if you fly Jetstar from Sydney to Brisbane, you actually land at the Gold Coast, not Brisbane Domestic near the city.

Gold coast would probably be better as they live at Nerang so would be less travelling
Or am i getting my places confused?

Nope, your geography is good. Nerang would be much, much closer than the city :)

No problem :) I've heard that Jetstar are doing allocated seating now too. I prefer Virgin anyway, but no allocated seating turned me right off Jetstar. It would have been like getting on a school bus!
I think they used to have some sort of system for families travelling together, otherwise it was every man for himself

Jetstar will have allocated seating from October, but I've always liked the non-allocation of seats - when you've got children you're bumped up to the front of the line (especially if they're noisey!!) and every time I've flown with the boys I've been either the first or second on the plane...it's when you're travelling without kids that it would be a pain - but who cares about those people anyway, if they don't have kids to wrangle they should wait!!

Just another tip...
sign up at the Jetstar website for Jetmail so you can be first to know of the coming sales on airfares. I know that every time we've booked it's been just before Christmas when the sale has been on.
Last year we paid $69 each way from Melbourne to the Gold Coast, and the year before I got our tickets for $49 each way.

Thanks for the tip. I just had a look at Jetstar, Qantas & virgin and the cheapest rate is $189 one way each  At that price, it would be cheaper to drive. But i'll sign up & keep checking.
Thanks again

Virgin has an email too (Vmail (http://www.virginblue.com.au/helpInfo/vmail/index.php)) keep an eye out for sales. Any travel around Christmas time can be $$$
Good luck :)

I would fly - so much quicker (well sometimes) - I know from experience travelling from c/coast by the time you got a bus or drove to syd airport and all that it does take time.
But think of it this way - You don't have to worry about idiots on the road - just other idiots flying other planes or birds - lol
Come fly with me come fly lets fly away.................
I'll just shut up now shall I...............:o
I think driving would be cheaper than paying for 3 tickets :S

We dont have to pay for MJ as she is under 2yo. But its still going to cost us atleast $380 plus transport down to the airport etc.
So glad that we dont have to pay for accomodation up there. Holidays are soo expensive
