I was approached last September by Bettina's at my local Shopping Centre. They took a photo of my Daughter for a comp they were running. of course we didn't win, but they have called a few times now wanting us to come in for a chat. on the last call, I asked if they were calling everyone from the comp, they said Bettina selected 20 kids. How true would this be

Very true :) stay away. Tell them you aren't interested. They are a waste of money and time.

There are loads of threads on here saying how they take your money and prmise work but never hear from them again.

I would avoid at all costs...

Probably just as true as pixie photos telling ringing you and telling you that you have won a free the sitting in the comp, i think i have a dozen free sittings, my guess is everyone does.

Only go with agencies that dont charge upfront fees, they shouldnt make any money until you do.

THinking I should stay away from them. What agencies don't charge up front? I might even look into bright stars when DD turns 3.

The best modelling agencies are those that approach you and are free. This only happens very rarely though. They usually ask to remain private from other people though because they don't like people applying their children etc.

I have never heard of an agency that doesn't have some costs - that's next to impossible

There is ALWAYS a photographer and make up artist to be paid, studio's to be hired just to get the right sort of publicity photo of your child

There is costs to put your child onto some of the web-casting sites

If your so certain your child is a winner, then put a photo and a listing on AT2 (about $30 these days?) and try freelancing

Bright Stars are no-longer in the casting game - they concentrate of teaching acting/dancing/drama

WorkingClassMum a few of my friends have been approached by private modelling companies and have had to pay $0. Their photos and such were all provided and they got frequent work. I don't believe they were put onto casting websites but they have their own database.

My Ds has been 'working' for about three years or so now, and I have asked at several of the better known casting agencies about free rep agencies and they have never heard of one.

I'm glad your friends kids are onto a good thing.

My DD is working consistently. We have NEVER paid a cent for headshots, AT2 or Showcast, or for "joining fees". Her agent covers all of it. It's their investment in order to make their commission.

BreithCuidic, Can I ask which State do you live in ?? We live in Melbourne and nearly every single Agent asks for money. This is to cover photographer, make up artists etc (well we are told !!) I was just wondering if this differs State to State ??

Hi there, I am new to this site. I have four kids aged 14,14,9 and 8. When my youngest daughter was about 4 or 5 i signed her up with Bettina as they were so adamant that she would get a job blah blah blah!!! I paid $460 and she did not get one phone call that whole year. Towards the end of her membership I get a phone call asking her to be in a Abused child commercial which did not even pay. I went off at them and told them no way. I have also written a complaint in to them about their tactics. They are the worse.

If any one knows a great agency that does not charge or charges very little please email me their details. All my four kids are gorgeous. My son was in a Whats new commercial a couple of years back and I did not have to pay hardly anything for the agency he was with.

any ideas??:):yelclap:

When my DD1 was 5 months old I posted her photo out to a few agencies. I got two acceptances back - Bettina and Bayside. Bettina offered the first interview so we showed up for our time and were booked in with another mother and her two children, which I thought was strange. The woman (I'm almost 100% sure it was Bettina herself), spent the whole interview talking directly to the other mother and telling her how adorable her children were BLAH BLAH BLAH. Barely looked at me the whole time. I was only 18 years old, the other woman was much older and looked like she had a lot of money. I left there completely unimpressed.
Went to Bayside a few days later and the difference was AMAZING! Was treated so nicely. I decided right away to put her in and paid the fees.
Bettina rang a few days later and asked if I was still interested, I told her I wasn't and she said "Yeah, I think that's for the best."!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was shocked. Couldn't believe how rude she was. Looking back, she obviously assumed I didn't have the $$

The funny thing is, after being with Bayside for 3 weeks, my daughter was cast in a television commercial for a HUGE brand and earned a fair amount of money. I've always wanted to ring back and tell her what an idiot she is :D

Anyway, basically my advice is to stay away from them. I've never heard anything good about the agency!

Hi,
We got invited for an interview with dd when she was 5 months old. Also got calls from 3 other agency. Well, Bettina's appointment was first so wasn't sure what to expect. This young girl ( first I thought she was a teen model but realised she worked there ) took us into the interview room and spent the whole time talking about fees and their reward card . Barely looked at dd. She told me they will contact me today or tomorrow to let me know if dd made it. Anyway she got accepted into all the agencies, but we decided not to continue at that time. Got a call from Bettina 3 WEEKS LATER saying how wonderful my daughter was. I replied back by saying how horrible they were and told them I was not interested. All I can say is STAY AWAY.
Thanx,
T

We went for an interview too...
My little girl was tired, and sick, and I suggested we post pone, they said, no, bring her in anyway. I took both my girls along. The baby was asleep the whole time, and my daughter was cranky & running around and playing with another little girl.
She told me all about the so called beneifits, talked about some card, and the photo shot etc, and really, she didnt look at the kids.
I asked if I should wake the baby so she could see what she looks like, but was told, no, dont bother!

So we get a call a few days later, asking to come in for a photoshoot & I said I'd have to think about it.

We didnt go with them. I rang back & said no, and they were like, "who is this again?" and then rang me again a week later saying they still hadnt heard back from us yet.

So, no, dont go with them.

Later signed with KidNation, and it was a whole different kettle of fish.

They limit #s in each age group, they only take well behaved & outgoing children (who would sign a shy child up, really?), they only took my eldest, as they didnt have a spot for my youngest at that time. Still had to pay up front $$, but we will see what happens.
No interviews & we wont sign back up.

Anyway, I hope that helps. I'd steer clear of Bettina too. What a $$$making racquet they have going on!

Hm well I have a family friend who is absolutely gorgeous and she has been with Bettina for years and has gotten heaps of work- she's actually one of the kiddy models of their website. I have heard heaps of bad stuff about them but from what I know they have come good with her.

Well you must either work for Bettina or you got very lucky. As they are clearly more of a scamming agency then an modelling agency.

Well I didn't get lucky as she's not my child and I definitly do not work for Bettina. I do however know that she's got quite a bit of work through them and that she is in more than one picture on their website.

Well peoples they called again! Not so impressive this time.
This time they appoligised for taking so long to call me?? I just told them I was not interested.

and I thought she only selected 20kids, well obviously that is not true, otherwise why take that long. I would have thought in reality those 20 kids would have been called pretty quickly...wouldn't want them to sign up somewhere else
