View Full Version : First immunisations - Yarra Ranges

Can anyone tell me whether it is possible to get the first three immunisations (2, 4 and 6 months) without the Hep B included, please?

I was advised to phone our local council's immunisation officer by the MCHN and was told that they did not offer it but that our GP should be able to administer it. All I got when I rang the GP surgery was a lecture from a nurse about how important it is for my 8 week old to have the vaccine (I declined the one at birth) as he may decide to go into medicine or child care as an adult! Apparently I am very lucky (and rare) to have reached the age of 43 without contracting Hep B as I have never been immunised. Funnily enough she wasn't interested in discussing why I was not being offered the vaccine too.

I still don't know whether the immunisations given at these three stages can be given separately - I am more than happy to pay - I don't feel that he needs to be immunised for 7 diseases in one go at such an early age. We live in the Yarra Ranges, Victoria but can travel to another area if needed.

While I am asking, is it possible to get the MMR as individual vaccines in Australia?

Thanks!

Just to fill those interested in......

I spoke again to our MCHN yesterday (she is very understanding) and she rang a doctor specialising in immunisations who recommended contacting the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. I sent an email last night requesting information about the vaccines available and have just received a phone call from a very helpful lady who said, "yes, of course the vaccine is available - it is available for 4 year olds and your local council or GP should administer it". She told us we are welcome to just turn up at the hospital clinic for DS to be vaccinated, so that is what we are going to do!
