View Full Version : Has anyone ACTUALLY made money?
I've just been reading some of these threads as another doting mum who thinks her DD is gorgeous - LOL! But I'm jsut wondering - has anyone's children actually made any money modeling? I really couldn't afford the fees the reputable agencies seem to charge but am curious about whether anyone has made back the amount they've paid to register with an agency?

 well we have made $70 so far and only been with them for 3 months and our fees were only 140, so almost made it back.

My daughter has made the four digit mark now and that's in Perth where the money isn't as good as over east! She does get alot of work because I am in the industry and my clients know her too, which helps sometimes!

my eldest has made just under $1000 on one job but most of that covered renewal fees (for his brother too) as we said he would only continue if he got a job to cover it. Well he did and now another year is about to start, (that job was with mathers shoes)
My youngest has done one job with Bright bots and he didn't earn money just clothes. Thas was okay cos they are international and he just had so much fun.
Actually, they both loved the jobs they did. The only thing is they don't understand why they can't do it all the time.

has your daughter got comp cards made up? Is it
worth being me Scene and Actorsnow for children?
Also has your daughter recently got any jobs? I
am considering an agent and just asking around
the moment for my little ones. Thank you

Mum2 I thought I would tell you my girls are with
Actors Now/Scene. I would recommend them.
My girls are a older, the youngest is 7.
Yes they do get some work from time to
time. Last job was the Burswood Hotel.
The classes are really good and the teachers
are really professional. Hope this helps.

Hi Guys,
Im in Bunbury, 2 hours South of Perth, but I want to put my little boy into modelling, I would be prepared to take him to Perth for it.. can anyone give me an idea of where to start? I have absoloutly no idea how it works and need all the help i can get!!

My kids go to Scene. The oldest has been modelling for about 6
years. I have looked around in the years and have found Scene
to be the best. Give them a call and they will send some brochures
out. Perth hasn't got a lot of work but what work there is, Scene
seems to get. If you attend the classes they do get to know your kids
and do offer the kids in the classes work. You can just go for the casting
sides of things, which involves getting your childs photo done and getting on the books. Thats happens roughly every month or you can
go to a private photographer and get some comp cards made up. So far
my kids have just head a headshot done for under $200 and they go
for TV commericals and have got a couple of press ads.

sorry.. what are comp cards?
aleishasmum
12-08-2006, 13:34
I must say you are right that photo is so cute. Comp cards is a cardboard
card which has a head shot on the front with details of all the childs
sizes eg height, clothes size and on the back is a couple of different looks
of your child eg different hair styles. I haven't had that done because I
wanted to make sure my kids got some work before paying out to much money and because your child grows up so quickly. (espically babies) I just went with a casting head shot. Karen from Scene is a really nice person to speak to, she is there on Monday's. Any other questions feel free to ask. As I have learnt, you learn all about modelling but asking other mums.

has any one had negative comments from friends or family about having your child in a agency? my MIL said we were ruining ds1's life by putting him in an agency and that he wont have a childhood or anything. mind you she said this when DP wasnt around lol
what is the actual income limit that requires a tax file number? i have been told its around 6 thousand is this correct?
My youngest dd, 7 yrs, has been with Munchkin's for a year and half and she has made in excess of $2500 so far. She gets around 1 job per month which is fine by me because I dont want her doing too much with school etc. She frequents Spotlight/Get Creative Mag/Sparty's, has done a big job for Target, and other smaller ones like KMart. She's also done Gumboots and has many castings for others as well. She one of just 4 paid extras in the CFA ad too.
Not bad considering you get around $70 p/hr a shoot.
She claims she's going to buy herself a Limo as her first car!!!

Negative comments? Yes, I get them often!! Mostly for "why do you make your child do this?" and "it's so expensive to do it and it's cruel to your child".. My comments are always the same. I dont make her do it, she wants to. She actually loves doing it. She knows she makes money from it and loves the idea that she will be able to buy what she wants when she is old enough! It's not expensive, when you consider how much it costs to send your child weekly sports etc (she does gymnastics which costs the same amt per term as it does for a whole year in modelling!!!) I put all of her money into her own bank acct and save it for her.
As for a tax file number. Every person who earns money needs one. It doesnt matter how much they earn. they still need it. It's just part of Howie's little scam :P

do agencies pay children different amounts for their jobs?
i read this in Tink82's post and it got me wondering.

we were told DS would be earning a minimum of $95 p/hr for a shoot:confused:
Can't be sure on that Jess. I know the agent gets that amt ..well that is what they charge the client. The agent takes their commission which leaves just under $70 per hour or part there of.
More is paid for film production and that is dependent on what part type you get etc. Also a higher rate is given for permenant photos ie packaging on products or POS attracts loading.
I would think that all agencies would have to charge their client the same fee but it depends on how much commission % they take as to what you actually get in your pocket. If you are unsure, ring the agent and ask
Hope this helps :D

i just worked out ds will get $76 p/h after the commision is taken out for photo shoots and catalouge work etc
for acting he has a different % it goes by the actor equity or something or other.
That's great! Who is he with?

:) tin lids lol
i am also joining him up to the AT2 site so he might get a bit more exposure through that site as well as tinlids who knows :)
Are you allowed to do that? I was under the impression you werent allowed to sign your kids in more than one place. I could be wrong though!
The rate. How did you work it out? Have you had a payment yet? Just that my dd did TinLids for about 6mths and got a payment from them for 1hr job and was paid exactly the same as what she gets now. The rate charged to the client is $95 but with commissions and fees she gets just over $67. I'm not trying to cause an arguement here, just wanted to know because if my dd hasnt been paid the correct amount I'd like to question her agent about this!

at2 isnt a agency its like a site to get exposure and if you have an agent you have to state which agency and the request for work will be sent to the agent not to you if that makes sense
the way i worked out the rate ds1 will be paid (he hasnt been paid yet as he hasnt had a job yet as he has been with tinlids for 1 week on monday lol) is i did the rate the agency charge the client subtract the commsion percentage (it should come up on the calculator how much the % is ) and then i hit enter :D i got dp to check it coz i have bad maths skills lmao
from my calculations the commision being taken out is $19 p/h.

So how many auditions and stuff do you have to take your kids to?
I am thinking of putting DD2 into something like this and live 1.5hrs from brisbane where I assume most auditions would be and just wondering if it's worth it.
She is just so hypo but angelic looking, a real character and very photogenic so she needs something to do that is exciting for her.
She just loves her pic being taken and jumps in front of the camera all the time even when i'm trying to take a pic of one of her brothers

DD has been registered for about 5 months and has had about 11 auditions. She's earned so far close to 2000 dollars and has 3 more auditions in new zealand next month (we were going on a holiday so we thought she could do them while we we're there)

So how many auditions and stuff do you have to take your kids to?
my ds1 hasnt had an audition yet but we have been told most of the auditions and castings will be held in melbourne and the photo shoots for stuff could be anywhere melb,geelong... at the moment my ds1 has broken out in eczema so he isnt looking too pretty
hey there
thats some excellent work happening there! Mixi mama who are you guys with? Im with ****** but they dont have any exclusivity contract so Im wondering about other agencies.
energa
My dd has had heaps of auditions and castings. A lot with Target and Myer. Some with TV Commercials such as Bega cheese and Toyota. At one stage we were travelling 2 - 3 times per week (one day we had 3 castings in the same day!)
The worst ever was teh day we had a casting for the ad where the girl has the string on her tooth looking rather dispondant. This was the day Melb had major floods (some of you may remember!) we got out of Geelong ok avoiding many flooded roads only to be stopped in Werribee area for a few hours. I finally got to divert and then was stuck in Werribee for a few more hours until I decided to dump the car and catch a train home. Dh caught a train up that night to collect the car! What a long and very draining day!! Needless to say we never made it to the casting lol
Many of my dd's jobs have come from job orders and only a few have come from castings. The Gumboots shoot was held at Arthur's Seat which was a good 3 1/2 trip for me. I decided to stay over and catch the ferry back as we had to be there by 8am!!
One tv commercial was held way up near the Dandinongs which was a good 2 hr trip as well. Most of the castings are done in the city area so it's only an hour away. The only prob I have with that is that I have to take dd out of school a good hour before the casting time which often means she has to have a full day off if it's 11 am or so.
Sometimes for me the money is worth it but there are times when it is not. I mean if I had to travel for 2 hrs just for a 1hr shoot it's not worth it (esp cost of petrol now!). So quite a few we knock back now. Some of the jobs are worth more because of loading for magazines and permenant packaging. (she got $250 + 2 hrs for one job which took only 1:30).
PS..Jess, my dd just got another pay and it's gone up. It's now $72 clear she gets per hour.

Question?? What do you parents actually do with the money your young kiddies make??
I mean I work in the industry myself so I obviously spend that money on whatever I want.
My kids have just been put with my agent for $30 each. And have auditions next week. But any money they ear will be going straight into a bank account in their names.
I mean I read about (in this thread) people giving negative comments. I dont mind kids working in the industry unless parents are pocketing the money.
No trying to cause an arguement just saying is all.
Question?? What do you parents actually do with the money your young kiddies make??
I didnt think you could do anything but deposit into your child's bank account, one that has only their name on it? I know my dd's bank does this and I think it's great!! My dd has saved enough already to buy her first car and she's only 7! She thinks it's awesome lol. We plan investing this soon when we find someone decent enough to do it with.
I mean I read about (in this thread) people giving negative comments. What do you mean 'negative comments'?
I dont mind kids working in the industry unless parents are pocketing the money. I totally agree with this comment. I cant see how parents can 'abuse' kids in such a way where they use the kids just to make an extra buck for themselves!

This is what I was referring too.... To put it in different words I was saying, is this a reason why some people get negative comments.
By pocketing the money, which obviously you dont but I was wondering anyone else.

I take the money out of the cheque of what it takes me to get her there. petrol wise or plane ride for some jobs.

That is what I would be doing too if DD were to get into modelling, just take my expenses for doing it out of her pay and the rest would be hers in a bank account! I iamgine it could get quite expensive for parents if they were not getting re-imbursed for the expense of doing it!

Hey
Does anyone know how I can get my dd into modelling/acting work in WA....
There are not many casting agents here...and most just take your money and run.
I want to get her in asap to build up some money for her trust account.
Plus its a big bonus that she loves smiling, laughing and playing up in front of the camera :D
Thanks

hi there, im in WA too, theres not a lot of work around.. I have entered my son in to a lot of different competitions, we've won 5 so far.. but thats mainly prizes not money. theres a book out called How to Give your kids 1 million each.. its a good read... theres a lot of other ways you can make money for your kids than putting them into modelling.. we have bought my ds two blocks of land which automatically transfer to him when hes 18, they dont cost us a lot each week and over 18 years im sure they'll be worth a bit. anyways, my point is lol that theres not much work around so maybe look in to other things! :o
I put my lil one in a modelling agency and completely forgot about it for a couple of months then got a call yesterday and he has a target audition or shoot or something on monday! I'm stressing about it cos they want him to fit into 00 and while I think he will... he's so chubby I'm not sure! lol.
It was a fairly cheap agency tho so I advise to look around!
