Hi,

My 12 week old DS is waking every 1-2 hours overnight, he was sleeping from 8 til 3am then back until about 7-8 previously. He seems hungry but refuses the feed and screams and pushes bottle away or shakes head, he used to have a 180ml bottle per feed about 6 times a day. He also refuses most feeds during the day too and will not feed while being help any more at all, we have to keep trying to find different ways. He has always been bottle fed and has some EBM and formula, it makes no difference whether we are trying to feed him EBM or formula. The paed said he has reflux and has put him on losec, which hasnt done anything and I dont even know if this could really be the cause. He is also testing him for a UTI.
Has anyone else experienced something similar at this age?
During the night wakes we are sometimes able to settle him by putting the dummy in his mouth, this may also be causing a problem?
J.

I went through the same thing with my DD...turned out it was teething, sucking on a bottle hurt her mouth...try seom Bonjela/panadol and then see if bubs takes the feed.

I was thinking that it may be early teething, thouht it was way too early though but I guess not. I just NEED sleep!
I hope it gets better for you both too.

How long has he been on the losec? What amount of losec is he on? What are his symptoms? Both my kids were diagnosed with reflux but once I had my second we realised it was secondary due to cows milk and soy protein intolorance hence why the meds weren't doing much.

Hi,
He has been on losec for 4 days, I dont know if he is actually getting any though as he vomits afterwards and it is so ard to give it to him in the first place.
The doc thought he had dairy in tolerance ahile ago so he is on soy formula and was doing fine for about a month until all of this started.
I have been trying different teats for his bottle but he is still refusing 3 out of 5 feeds a day, therefore I guess thats why he is waking every 2 hours cause he is hungry??
What formula did you use with soy and cows milk intolerance? Could that be why he wakes every 2 hours screaming the house down and why he is refusing the bottle?
Oh he is on 5mg of losec.
Thanks for your post!
J.

My daughter was the same she has CMP allergy (she's on neocate) and was put on losec 5mgs too.
It took about 3 weeks then she came right.
Good luck.

I would give it a couple of weeks to see if the losec works. What I found with both mine was there was an improvement then a few weeks later the wind pains and all that started again. Cows milk protein intolorance is very common unlike lactose intolorance which is pretty rare. Most children with cmpi also are intolorant to soy protein hence why lactose free/ regular or soy formulas don't work.

You will need to see a dr or a paed to prescribe an elemental formula like pepti jr, neocate or elecare. My paed ran a astool test and then skipped the others and went straight to the most elemental elecare. It took about a month for his gu to settle and repair but he has now been on elecare 7 months and we haven't had any more issues with feed refusal or pain unless he is teething which isn't often. They are very costly for the government though and you need an authorised script. Most will expect some proof in tests before they will give it out however some drs will take your word.
