Hey ladies,

Just wondering if 3 and half months is too early to take the little one in the pool?

Was thinking of going to the aquatic centre with my 2 year old, she loves the water but was wondering if my 3 and half month old is too young to take in as well.

we took him into my friend's salt water pool before and he loved it, was so relaxed.
But is it safe for him to be in a public pool?

I took Nathan to a public pool a few weeks ago (he's a bit older than 3 months though) and he was fine.

I think DS was about 2 months or so. I held him the whole time though. :)

How about all the chemicals and that in the pool?

They not dangerous or too harsh for him?

I've also heard somewhere that it's an immunisation thing, which is why they don't start classes for babies til 6 months.. is that true?

I didnt take our DD into the pool until she was 12 weeks, their immune system is getting stronger by then.

I think it is a personal choice though, just do what you feel is right :)

My DS started swimming lessons on saturday morning at 13 weeks, he loved it !!! This was in a heated 25 m pool. He did all the activities ( with mummies help ) that the 1 and 2 year olds were doing. He was the youngest on the day but his mate who is also 14 weeks starts this week too.

We live on the beach so him learning to swim is extremly important to us. He loves being in the ocean already. We also took him for a play swim yesterday afternoon at the local cold water pool, not a problem.

Start them early i think, my cousins 3 year old has just started swim lessons, has never really been in a pool or deep water, and he is terrified, screams the whole time poor little man.

We started DD swimming lessons at 9weeks. So should be ok. Swimming lessons here start at 6weeks old

She loves it. Its a heated pool.

we took ds at 3 months for 'lessons' but the pool was a hydrotherapy pool that was quite warm. Just make sure you have warm clothes to put on after. He loved it and is now 15 months and loves swimming - goes crazy!! We shower him straight away when we get him out. I have also read that showering before you get in is a good idea as it reduces the amount of 'organic compounds' (think maybe means dead skin and stuff!?) to react with pool chemicals but can't remember where I read this.
