Hi
Im wondering if anyone has used a tea-tree mattress or know if they are safe? I got a cradle passed down to me to use in bub's first few months and it has a tea-tree mattress. I can't seem to find any normal mattresses for cradles around.
I used one with both my girls. They are meant to be very good as the material is very breathable (and therefore in theory meant to reduce the chance of SIDS), anti- dust mite etc. The only downside I found was that it moulded to the babies shape so I had to shake it out every day or so to get it flat again. They are also much thicker than normal cradle mattresses (which are traditionally thin foam), so you need to make sure that there is still a good height of railing on the cradle so that if they roll there is no problem.

I had my bub in a tea tree snuggle bed mattress thing for the first 3 months until a representative from SIDS council said that they do not recommend them. The baby shop said that it was fine though etc etc.
Basically, no mattress is 100% safe anyway whether tea tree or not especially if bubs sleeps on their stomach. But, if you have plenty of airflow and can get them to sleep on their backs no matter what surface they are on they this helps to drop the risk of SIDS!
If you are anything like me, I check on Tayla all the time still anyway and always check to see if shes breathing even if she is asleep in her car seat next to me if i am in the back with her.

Thanks for your replies. I was worried about it as I knew as you said that cradle mattress are usually foam, and I had heard something about SIDS and tea-tree mattresses. The person I got it off has just had a baby 7mths ago and she used it for him and it was fine so i think i'll be right. Well I'll try it anyway when bub's born and see how I go. I did notice though that the mattress is really hard to make up the bed, that might drive me insain. :D

Hi there I am going to be new mum in Dec and was wondering if someone could tell me who sells tea tree mattresses in South Australia as my mother in law was talking about them at the weekend and I was hoping that they come in cot size as well.
