Since the topic of infection rates for boys is being discussed particularly in respect to circumcision, I thought it would be interesting to see if girls suffered from comparable rates of infections to their outer genitals or urinary tract.

My eldest daughter had a number of UTis under the age of 5. A contributing factor may have been 'hanging on' which she eventually learnt not to do.
I dont have a daughter. My girlfriends 9 year old daughter gets thrush a lot, and since childhood I got UTIs and thrush. Thrush is very very painful to the point where DF wanted me to go hospital. Maybe I should cut my labia off? Just kidding.

i don't have a daughter. But as a child i had horrible UTIs. They were constant and painful. I had a cystoscopy as a young child to see if they could find anything, but they couldn't. I ended up going on its own and now i might have one on the odd occasion.

My DD has had several UTI's and she had to have surgery because of an issue with opening of her vagina.

She's had 3 UTIs in the last 4 years. Not related to nappy rash, she was out of nappies well before she got her first UTI. Apparently she's prone to it. Nothing that antibiotics and lots of water couldn't fix, though! She's only ever had antibiotics for the 3 UTIs and 2 bouts of tonsilitis. She is keeping her tonsils too :D

UTI's and thrush are common (as far as I am aware) in the 12 months preceding the onset of menstruation.

Don't have a girl and don't remember having UTI's as a child but the 'average' rate is 2% for boys and 8% for girls.
