hi all,
just wondering about having a new born sleeping in air-con? i didn't think it was a good idea but someone said to me they thought it was better than a ceiling fan, just interested to find out if anyone knows anything about this? coz my bubba will be here in january (i live in cairns) so it will be very hot i dare say :(. i was just going to have windows open and a pedastool fan for db and me...........
as long as bubs is warm it isnt a problem as my last 3kids did a fan is good but i found they still sweeted heaps

i live on the sunshine coast, and had my baby in january this yr... nice and hot!!! not as hot as cairns though! we used the aircon in our room at night, i read that as long as the filters are cleaned regularly there is nothing wrong with the aircon.. we didnt use it all day and night, just a few hours a night and to take the edge of the heat, then left the ceiling fan on the rest of the time.
Good luck with your pregnancy

We used air-con when DS was only 1 month old and he was fine. Just keep bubs covered up.

I had a January baby and used the aircon. I was more worried abot overheating! As long as bub is nice and warm it won't be a problem.

Ditto. I have a March baby. the air con was brilliant for keeping the temperature in her room constant during some really weird hot cold hot cold warm hot cold weather we were having.

Honestly, your bub will be perfectly fine!
My bub was born in November and being qld it was hot so we had the ac on from day go. I put her in her jumpsuit and a thin cotton sleeping bag and I also swaddled her, plus she had a light sheet/blanket over top, perhaps I went overboard a bit but she was the right temp always.
good luck
I've now had 2 Feb bubs and both have lived in air con rooms........they both love to be rugged up but in cool room! In fact, they still sleep with it on....cause I can wrap little one up and tuck in nice and tightly.
I also use the fan.
Babies are more likely to overheat and be uncomfortable and overheating is a SIDS risk - so best to keep cool if you can & most people I know put in a/c when they have a baby up here!
My friend had her bub in Nov and had no a/c in Brissy.......we were just talking about it the other day and she firmly believes (like me, cause I stayed with her when he was about 2 months old) it's the root of all his sleep problems - those first months in the heat were a nightmare and resulted in him hating his room / cot etc......at 3 yrs, he's still got major sleep issues. She's hoping for another one but now lives in a/c house!!
