Hi,
Most research says its best to start BF ASAP ( within 1 hour of birth skin to skin even if not feeding ), ask your CP what the policy is at the hospital you are going to. If you wish to BF then maybe look at a BFHI acredited (http://www.bfhi.org.au/) hospital in your area.

After my emergency caeser, we attempted to BF once I was in recovery which would have been within the hour. However at that stage, Gemma wasn't too interested in feeding......although she did get the hang of it later on.

Both of mine were cesars and both full term babies, so i had a great supply ready.
But like Goosie said, they generally "encourage" (some places this word can be used interchangeably with "forced") to bf as soon as you are out of recovery.. so yes, about an hour after the cesar.
The baby doesn't actually need to be fed (hunger wise) for 3 days, I believe... so it's just for you and the baby to get the hang of latching on and to stimulate milk production and for bonding and soothing baby while they are freaking out about what just happened to them. :D

I had natural births for my first 7 and breastfed them immediately after birth, with the last one I had an emergency ceasar, and he was in intensive care for a day so i couldn't feed him. I began feeding him the day after birth and there was no problems at all.

I breast fed my first bub in recovery. Then asked if the same would happen for my second bub (different hospitals, different states). The second hospital didn't do so in recovery, but waited till I was back in my room - something to do with the number of people in the room.

I breastfed my son till he was 16months, and while my daughter isn't as interested in feeding (goes about 4-6hourly usually), and my son went about 2-3hourly, my bonding etc has been great with both of them, and she's feeding fine when she wants a feed.

I fed my DD straight away in recovery, she latched on fine and was always a great feeder, however it did take an extra 2 days for my milk to come in. So I had a very hungry bubba for about 2 days and all I did was feed feed feed.
Perhaps this is what you have been told?

I fed DD a few hours after she was born (though they just milked me like a cow because she kept falling asleep...my colostrum was syringed into her mouth).

She was 2 weeks overdue and failed to breathe for 11 mins, so was taken to the Special Care Nursery just to be watched (she was fine). They forgot about me in recovery (it was just me for a while...nobody was there...scary).
