Hi All,

Am looking at buying a Safe-n-sound convertible car seat. Just don't know whether to go with a retractor or a manual ?? Any good/bad points on either you can give me?? Thanks for your help :)

I have a retractable and find it brilliant as it needs adjusting nearly everytime DS gets in it depending on the bulk he is wearing but I have heard that they can wear out quicker than the manuals.

I have a retractor and it's great.

My hubby has the manual one and I can never get the angle right to retract the cable. It drive me nuts!

I had a retractor car seat but hated it as it was never tight enough and had to stick my hand through the back to tighten it manually myself anyway. But now I have a manual one and love it. The shop I got the manual one from does not stock many of the retractor ones anymore as they have had too many complaints about them.

The salesman advised me to never get an automatic retracting one as they may not retract enough as bub's is always in different thickness of clothing etc.

I brought a retractor one for my first born and used it for 8.5yrs. I loved it!!! I did have to pull the straps through at the back before pushing the button, but there was plenty of room in there for my hand.
I used a manual one once and found it meant too much stuffing around.

I love my retractor safe and sound. I just pull the strap down at the back and push the button. Dead easy. I used to hate the manual one I had for my daughter because you had to make sure you had the straps the right length and then strain to do it up, then if she had on a jumper lengthen the straps... The retractor clips in nice and loose so he can wriggle all he wants while I get it done up, then it just tightens down.

We got a manual so that DS got the added pleasure of cushy bits covering the seatbelts, also if you live in a hot climate you dont have to worry about the hot belts on their skin. I adjust it everytime and have no complaints as i like the idea of doing it yourself to know it is done right,i fear i'd be too complacent with a retractor.
