I know chiropractic adjustments are supposed to be safe in pregnancy, but does that mean everything a chiropractor normally does is safe or do they have to change what they do?

I'm only 11 weeks, and I told him at 7 weeks I was pg and he said it was no problem, but when he adjusts my lower/middle back, it's hardly "gentle" - I lie on my side with the top leg bent and over the other one and then he basically puts all his weight on me and pushes himself down heavily to make it all "crack" into place.......

can this really be safe, particularly as my pregnancy progresses? I haven't asked if he would still do that as I get bigger.

I mostly go there for deep tissue massage and then he just does a few adjustments, so I could live without them, except now my old injury from my last pregnancy has popped up again - really lower back, more in the top of my butt :o on one side I've strained again already and it was agony towards the end of last pregnancy. I need to be able to get some sort of treatment on it, but again, I have no idea how he would treat that area anyway.

Sorry for the blah:ecomcity:. Feeling a bit overwhelmed with all these silly little decisions you have to make when pregnant which seem so "life and death".

Thanks :o

I went to the chiro all throughout my pregnancy. I dont think that he used manual adjustments on me just the "clicker" type. I hope that helps. Different chiros use different techniques. Make sure yours is associated with the Chiropractic Association Australia. They can reccomend a good one to you and perhaps a seperate massage therapist? Take care

Rather than get manual adjustments, request for adjustments with the activator (its a clicking device that applies firm but painless taps on the area that needs adjustment). They are far more gentle than "back cracking". I used to work for a fabulous chiropractor who had a huge fan base amongst pregnant women, and mothers with young babies, and he is dead set against manual adjustments. He used the Sacro Occipital Technique. I personally wouldn't want a chiro putting all their weight on me just to make an adjustment! Ask if he can use an activator to do your adjustments, otherwise there are plenty of chiros out there that can.
