My DS is just over 6 months and things seem to be changing rapidly... suddenly his feeds have dropped off, sleeping patterns are changing, etc. I know all bubs are different and are changing all the time but i was just curious to know what other bubs of about the same age are doing... how many sleeps, how long awake, how many bf's, etc, etc. I don't want to compare as such, i just think it is interesting to hear and can sometimes give you some good ideas about something you may not have thought of... anyway, let me know...

oh, by the way my DS ishaving solids at regular times twice aday and loving it, has dropped his bf to 4-5 times a day ( he was previously a very frequent feeder!) and tends to have one big sleep and two little ones (though this seems to be all over the place at the moment) and he seems to be staying up longer between sleeps, though his tired signs are also changing so i could be missing them occasionally

sorry to babble on!! :)

Hi, i have been past the 6 month stage with Baby number 2, bailey is 8 and a half months old now. Things changed with him at 6 months too, at 6 months he was only on 3-4 breast feeds a day, this was after starting him on 3 solid meals a day, he also went from having 2 sleeps a day to 1, i think it is quite normal for things to start changing at the 6 months stage but then again i know someone that exclusively breastfed her daughter till she was 10 months old. If you want to talk more my email addy is catherinetad@hotmail.com.

Hi there,

Tayla is now 6.5 months and the past week has been a nightmare compared to what she was doing. She was sleeping 7 - 7 with no dummy or grizzling but now when we put her down she screams and carries on and needs the dummy.

During the day she hasn't been much of a sleeper but we will get 2-4 naps out of her with 20 - 40 minutes each. She has been a bit off with her bottle in that she only has around 100ml and would rather look around. She isn't on solids really yet as she hasn't shown much interest but I have just tried her on some rice cereal to see if this helps.

We think she is teething as she is dribbling a lot and biting etc but she seems to not really want to sleep but is happy enough.

Just when you think you have a nice pattern going, it all goes out the window and you have to get used to broken sleep again!!!

hi all,
my bub was a terrible sleeper up until 6 months 4-5 short naps a day (20-40min) after 6 months he got sick with bronchiolitis and we also travelled to NSW from WA (at the same time.... fun holiday :)) this brought about a rapid change in him, 3 solids and 4 bottles consistantly 2 big sleeps 1 1/2hrs to 2hrs each.

wow a textbook baby routine.

I dont reccomend the bronchiolits as a treatment though :)

now at 7 1/2 months he is still following this rountine

Hi. ds is 7 months now and things also changed alot for us at 6 months. He was a real napper, but I put him onto a schedule and he seems to love it. I guess it depends on the baby - they're all so different, but this works for us.

7am wake/breastfeed
9am breakfast
10am - 12 sleep
12.30 lunch
2pm - 4 sleep
6pm dinner
6.30 bath & wind down
7.30 bed

It only took about a week and he was really getting into those 2 hour sleeps. I would just go and resettle him (with minimum fuss & no eye contact) if he hadn't had 2 hours, and he soon go the message.

He still wakes in the night, but settles easily and quickly. :)

My beautiful bubba is 6 months next week. He has thrown his old routine TOTALLY out the window this week. It has been a shock to our system! The old routine was LOVELY and worked soooo well for both parents and bub. Now we are trying to find the new one.

This is his "routine" at the mo' for want of a better word!

6am wake
6.30 breast feed
7.00 - 8.30 SLEEP
9.30 rice cereal
10.00 breast feed
11.00 - 12.00/1.00 SLEEP
1.30 - pureed pears
2.00 breast feed
3.00 - 4.00 SLEEP
5/5.30 bathtime
5.30/6 SLEEP
2.00 night breast feed

It's wierd when they suddenly change isn't it?

My bub is now doing:

6:30 wake up & feed

morning sleep approx 40 mins

feed (or not)

after lunch sleep - 1 1/2 hrs if I'm lucky

feed

late afternoon sleep approx 40 mins

feed

bath (about every 3 days - i'm slack!)

feed

7:30ish bed

night feed between 2 and 3

Her sleeps are obviously not at the same time each day but she can usually stay up for about 2 1/2 hrs. She doesn't really like solids yet, but I try to give her some every day. At least I can get things done in between sleeps now!

Hope this helps!

My bub's sleeping pattern went totally out the window for a few weeks - up all hours, no longer sleeping through the night, and very hard to get to sleep.

She's slowly returning back to normal, and even having the ocassional 1-2hour sleeps during the day - Bliss!! (normally she wouldn't sleep more than 1/2 hour at a time before).

Now we are getting onto solids - she woolfed it down the first two nights, and hasn't been keen on it since (a week on) - so we'll just keep offering it to her - she'll have to get hungry again sooner or later!

Hi,
my bub has suddenlly changed too. He is 6 1/2mths old and has now started waking during the night and wanting to feed like a newborn again.
He's not interested in solids and cracks it if I offer them.

8.00 Wake

8.30 Breast feed

10.00-11.00 Sleep

11.00 Breast feed

1.45 Breast feed

2.00-4.00 Sleeptime

4.30 Breast feed

6.00 Bathtime

7.00 Breast feed

7.30 Bed time

10.00 Breast feed

1.30 Breast feed

4.30 Breast feed

Oh my goodness, I feel like a cow!
I hope he becomes interested in solids soon.
