Hi guys,

Just looking for opinions on how much you would be willing to pay for a keepsake/memory of milestones in your pregnancy and in your childs life?

Things such as your Baby Shower, christening/naming ceremony, 1st birthday...

What have you got to remember these events? How much did you pay? What would you be willing to pay if you had a do-over?

I could probably think of a few more questions, but thats all I got at the moment.

TIA
Kat

I never had a baby shower. Her Christening cost about $30 for the cake and about $40 all up for other finger foods and drinks. We just had it in the backyard. Her Christening gown was the same one worn by me and my older brother as babies when we were Christened.

Her first birthday was just a little party in the park, probably about $60 all up for cake and food. I only had water in a big Daddy Cool for drinks.

Her other birthdays have been pretty much the same, haven't cost all that much. I take lots of photos of things so there are plenty of shots of her on those special occasions.

I don't really have anything besides photos to remember baby shower by and nik nak gifts etc.

For christenings I have handmade candles as a keepsake. Paid around $5 each for the candles & decorated them myself & the gowns :)

I also have a belly cast for both my kids and plan on doing another for my 3rd. I was given my first kit, my 2nd cost $75 and the 3rd I'm looking at one for $40 and my Mum and I do them at home.

My most precious keep sake isn't of an event though.
I love love love the hand and feet impressions I got done along with a photo of my own they are the best thing ever. I get them done with impressionable kids-they are wonderful! the ones I get are $160 and you pay half when u get them done and half when u pick them up it's worth every cent.

Not a lot really. I take HEAPS of photos though. I love photographs of my belly, my baby, my labour, events, family, everything.

I appreciate keep sakes when they're given to me, but like, I was given a mould thing for bubba to make a cast of his hand or foot when he was born - and it just too much effort, so I didn't do it :o Because it wasn't hugely important to me.

Though, I occasionally pull out bubs first PJs and gush over how incredibly small he was :crying: (he's quadrupled the weight he was when I brought him home from hospital  I cannot believe he was ever so tiny!)

I think I over spent on bubbas first christmas, i wanted to make it super special, but he was 6 weeks old, so it was completely pointless going overboard with the decorations and gifts. But I know why I did it, so I'm not hard on myself for the overspend.

My baby shower cost me about $60 on groceries for food, and I prepared everything myself. I'm a good thrifty entertainer. I was happy with that. My friends did the decorations, but I imagine they spent less than $50. Which was perfect. It was fun and memorable!

I think theres rarely ever a time when I've looked back and though "gee, I wish I'd spent more money on that" so I think less is more when it comes to one-day-events.

As long as you have close friends and family and a camera handy, what could make the day more special?

DS was our long awaited bubba and I must admit since he has been born I have gone over board. He has had profeesional photos done, he had his hand and foot mould done, his christening would of cost about 2-3K. We had it at the local church and then hired a room at a local resturant/pub and put on finger food and drinks. I have already started planning his 1st birthday, I am hoping to do a mini carnival theme, I have asked his granddad to make him a memory chest so we can put all of his keepsakes in. I have hundreds and hundreds of photos and I make those books up from Harvey Norman for him on like his first christmas, his christening etc. Oh and another good thing I had was a pregnancy calender. I also have a cheap diary and I write all his first in. Like first smile, first word, first time he sat up etc. I plan on doing all this for the next bubba and any more we have, but now I know ways on how to save money.
