So I'm pretty sure that DS has reflux. He vomits after almost every feed, won't sleep except for on his stomach, will only settle upright in his sling, is catnapping, always in pain, has the hiccups about 10 times a day, arches his back, gurgles, coughs and is a very fussy feeder most of the time.
All of these the exact same symptoms my DD had - except she had silent reflux and never vomited.
I'm taking him to the doc this afternoon but can anyone tell me - if one child has had reflux is it more likely that subsequent children will have it too? Or is there no correlation at all?

Yes aparently it is more likely to have another if you already had one as aposed to none. I don't know if this is a myth but something along the lines if you have a daughter that has it then have a son there is more likelyhood aswell it think it was along the lines that it's more common in boys. Not entirely sure if its true.

Yes my DS1 had it and I hoped that my DS2 didn't but he got it worse!!!. When I took him to the Doc at 4 weeks with the symptoms he gave us medication straight away he said that they wouldnt usually jump straight to that diagnosis unless there had been other siblings with reflux.
this thread has just about made me cry - i thought surely if you were unlucky once you wouldn't be again :crying:
hope he is doing ok ches

All 3 of mine have silent reflux, just different degrees.

Well yes the GP just gave him Losec straight away. DD was diagnosed at 4 weeks and the symptoms were all heading down the same path, so she said we may as well just bite the bullet. He had a better night last night and a good day today - but he's quite different from DD because he does throw up and he is a bit harder to settle, but she was just as windy as he was, with the same kind of pain if she didn't (or couldn't) poo.
Isn't it funny how much more relaxed you are the second time around? Even though I'm only averaging five hours of broken sleep a day, I really feel ok and in control and not too tired at all.
But then - he's only three weeks old!

DS got diagnosed with reflux because DD did... In hindsight now that DS has been diagnosed cows milk and soy protein intolorant it makes sense to me that DD was misdiagnosed as the reflux must have been secondary. DS had terrible wind pains and one week he would be fine next terrible got to the point he only drunk in his sleep and was screaming more. Once we found out and put him on the prescription forumla he was right... You are breastfeeding right? Have you considered cutting dairy then soy out to see what happens?

Oh right I miss read that I thought he had been on losec a while still in pain... Just give it a while if it doesn't work then perhaps look at cmpi possibility.

I don't eat any dairy anyway, but DD is lactose intolerant. Only she developed it as secondary to a REALLY bad bout of gastro she had that lasted nearly four months, poor bubba.
Her reflux was perfectly controlled on Losec and as soon as she had a trial off it she went right downhill again - so we definitely had it right with her. For DS this medication is just a trial to see if it helps him - if it makes no difference we'll have a look at food allergies. But he's already showing signs of improvement after only 3 doses! So hopefully we're on the right track.
