My poor lil bubba has had a nasty cough for about a week now he is only 2 weeks old i took him to the doctors about 3 days ago but she said everything sounded clear. Now i have put my ear to his back and chest and sounds very weazy when he breaths.I have booked another docs appointment but im wondering what they will do if it is a chest infection because he is only new will they put him on medication??He also chokes on his saliva and goes red in the face i have to rub his back.I dont want it to get really bad where he ends up being in hospital. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx:hugs:

I got no advice, just :hugs: :hugs: Poor bubba, and poor mumma, must be so stressful. If it was me I'd probably take him to the hospital emergency dept, being a newborn they wouldn't give you a brush-off. And even if he is fine and it's just normal newborn snuffles, at least your mind is at ease.

Sometimes mum eating dairy can cause congestion in a newborn, you could try giving up the dairy for a few days and see if it makes a difference.

Babies can go downhill so quickly so although he may have had a clear chest when you were at the Dr's, he may have gotten congested since then, hence why you can hear it. I agree with The Queen, have him checked out again either at an ED or at the GP's.
All the best, it's awful when your newborn gets sick.:)

i would take bubby back. it is safer to be slightly paranoid then to just think it'll be all ok when its not.
in a space of 3weeks i took my ds to the dr 4 or 5 times coz i coulda sworn he was chesty, but everytime the dr said he was clear, its often just in the nose and throat, as all the mucus and gross stuff can slide down their throat abit without actually going all the way.
but it definetely pays to have them checked anyway!
hope all is ok:fingerscrossed:

A couple of weeks ago my bub had a cold and cough... i took her to the doc and her chest was clear. A few days later she developed a wheeze when she breathed. I took her back to doc and it turned out she had bronchilitis (not bronchitis) which is a viral infection, apparently quite common for babies to catch.

As it is viral, there was nothing doc could give her...i just had to monitor her and keep up the fluids. Should her breathing get laboured and I was concerned I was instructed to take her to the hospital, where they would have given her oxygen to help her get thru it. Luckily she recovered well within a couple of days.

Good that your taking her back to the dr...I felt like a bit of a panicky pete, but I think its better to be safe than sorry, and for peace of mind. Good luck:)

maybe see if the Dr or chemist or even your CHC nurse recommends a vaporizer in the room at night? Might help a little.:fingerscrossed:

Hi girls thanx for your replies i took him back to the doctors and they said he is ok that it is a viral thing not much they can do.The doctor said if he gets any worse he may have to be hospitalised and put in a humidifier i think he mentioned Bronchilitis:confused: .Other than that i just have to keep an eye on his breathing and if when he breaths in the stomach goes in i have to take him back.

Ditto... I took bub to the Dr's two days in a row so he could check it wasn't getting any worse as they say the 2nd or 3rd day is when they are at their sickest with Bronchialitis. About 4 bubs in mum's group had it and one went to the hospital with croup as well.... trust your instinct and don't hesitate or wait for a second opinion if you feel your bub isn't improving. Its such a worry when they're sick!:hugs: to you!

My 6 week old son is the same. So to be on the safe side I have been taking him to my gp every 2-3 days just to get checked as we have a history of asthma in my family. Also DD1 suffers from asthma.

I hope your son gets better soon.

Take him back to the doctors. And if no improvement take him to the hospital.

Sorry to be alarmist .. but I have 2 girls with pnuemonia at the moment, Heidi spend 2 days in hospital and poor Ellie has bacterian pneumonia and is on antibiotics and had to have a blood test yesterday (not pleasant for a 6yr old !).

And in BOTH instances (for viral and bacterial pneumonia) it started as a cough. Heidi had high fever with hers, Ellie had more of a low grade fever. So if there are ANY chests sounds that you can hear...off to the doctors or hospital, but remember - you can't always hear the crackles without a stethoscope, and in some instances - pneumonia can be present without chest sounds.

Our little man had bronchiolitis last month and its so hard as its viral all you can do is make them comfortable, lots of fluids and mummy cuddles.
When it comes to little bubbas getting sick you can never be paranoid i think, better to be safe
