View Full Version : Swolen Feet!!
I have heard that if your feet get too swolen, they can put you in hospital! I havent had swolen feet up until probably the middle of last week... this week they are so bad, they sting and I cant move my toes, thats how swolen they are. So gross. I know all I can do is put my feet up- but if theres so much to do, I cant really do that. How bad do they have to be, before you get put in hosp?

Im not sure how bad they have to be to put you in hospital but just tell your midwife/doc at your next appointment. My midwife always told me to tell her when i get swollen feet and she just checks them out. Its horrible aye espeically when you cant sit down feels like the whole weight in the world in weighing down on your ankles :banghead:
Just put your feet up or put them in warm water thats what i do! Hope you feel better soon :hugs:

not too sure on that one, but there is some cream you can get from the chemist, i used it and it really soothed and helped (only a little mind you) with the swelling, cant remember what it is called but it is in the pregnancy creams and bits and pieces section.

I would deffinatly be making an appointment to see a doctor because excessive swelling on the feet/legs/hands is a form of pre-clampsia. I don't want to worry you because it might not be that at all.. but it is however probably best to see someone.
Goodluck :fingerscrossed:
I know - I have elephant feet too at the moment. The other signs of Pre-Eclampsia are swelling of the face and hands, and blurred vision and headaches which is the scary one to put you in hospital - and high blood pressure. Swelling of the feet can be normal, but if it gets excessive - get it checked out.
I've read that if it tends to calm down overnight (which mine does), it's ok - but of course, when I'm up and about at work again, they flare up again! You can get those special stockings at chemists but they're so ugly...heehee!
They say to drink plenty of water too - seems wrong because it's all fluid retention, but the more you drink, the more it drains apparently!
Yeah, ive been tested for Pre-Eclampsia as I actually had vision loss!! and headaches... my hands and face havent swolen up, and my BP is normal every time they check! and they couldnt find anything at the hospital when i went in to get checked out with the vision loss.
Im abit over having feet that resemble footballs! LOL The thing is, they go down over night, and I dont do a hell of alot- just house work etc... but its like- as soon as I stand up or put my body upright, my feet just go POOF!
Sitting on the comp here, I can feel them getting bigger.

I've had swollen feet, ankles, legs and hands now for a few weeks....the dr said its just something that happens! I'm due to have no. 5 on the 8th Aug and have never had any swelling before so I was concerned!! Although, my swelling may settle down slightly overnight, it doesnt go away! And yes it is painful too..I think I't s because your skin is getting so stretched!! I do have to say though...my feet have never been so shiny!!!!LOL!! Unfortunatley theres not much you can do but wait til you have your baby...I'm so sure I will be on that toilet for ages after I have my baby...getting rid of all this extra fluid.....I'm sure most of the weight I've put on is because of it!!Gee I should lose heaps of weight in hospital then!LOL!!!
I have extremely swollen feet and hands but i just got back from my midwife appt and she checked my blood pressure and didn't seem overly concerned with my puffiness.
I asked her what the signs to look out for are and she said my blood pressure and protein in my urine.
Luckily I have a blood pressure machine and a urine protein tester at home <sarcasm>

I thought I was the only one.

Yep, I have shocking swelling of the ankles and feet too (looks like I have elephantitis :( ) but when I spoke to my OB about it she said not to worry unless I also have headaches, blurred vision, dizziness or stated seeing black spots. Thing is that this week I have had fleeting experiences of dizziness and seeing black spots, as well as the ugly swelling of course. My BP is also fairly high. I am waiting to go to my OB in a week's time and will tell her all about it then (I have even photographed my fat feet so I can show her just how bad they get!) I have already been told that I have pre-eclampsia (as my mum had eclampsia with me), but my OB doesn't seem to stress about it too much. I guess I must be on the lower end of the scale.
