Hi - When Liv was born ( she is now 11 months) she put on great amounts of weight quite quickly, however in the last 2 months she has only put on 520 gms, she is not quite 8 kgs. She used to be in the 50th percentile, but has now dropped into the 3rd percentile. I know these are a guide only, but I think dropping into the 3rd from the 50th is a little extreme.
She is an excellent eater and has 3 bf's over 24 hrs and looks healthy and in proportion and her height is normal.
I guess I just expected her to weigh more and now I'm scared she will drop off the shaded area altogether or even lose weight  .
Does anyone else's baby put on weight slowly? Is this normal? I am so scared something is wrong :crying:

I got DD weighed and measured a month ago ( possibly three weeks with how my mind works lol) ... she is completely below the shaded area.
Quite light, but quite long... but still small. The doc had no probs with this as some babies are just like that.
It's like some other babies are just completely off the chart over the other side... No mother worries about that because "Their getting a good a feed" ... hmm yeah, rightio  lol
Just chill, it's safe it's good, if you feel that your bub is happy and healthy and it's just this cr@ppy out of date chart making you worried, rip up those pages in your blue book!! LOL
Do it, Go on! I dare YA!!
No dought at 11mths your little girl is very active and is therefore using up more energy. It is very normal for babies around this are to almost stop gaining weight as they are developing in other areas. My Ds slowed right down when he started crawling and between 10 and 12mths he only put on 230g.
Hope this eases your mind a little
My DS is 22 months and only just 10kg. He hasn't put on anything substantial since 9 weeks old. He has a very quick metabolism, is constantly on the move, eats like a horse but thats just him. They do slow down on their weight gain at about a year aswell. Dont fret. P.S. He sticks below the shaded area. My Dr sent up to our Paed twice who eventually took bloods after telling us that there was nothing wrong and he was right. Our drs eventually accepted its just DS and that not all babies stay in teh shaded line.

my ds1 is 15 months and was weighed on monday and he is 10.2kgs. my mchn reassured me it was a good weight for his height so he was all in proportion. he started to lose weight just before his 1st bday but since then he has piled it back on and then some :D
my ds's weight gain has slowed down since he was about 6 months. i think the most he puts on in a month is 100grams.
my son was 4.1kg when he was born and so was on the larger side. but over the last couple months his weight gain has dropped dramatically. my dr just tells me so long as he is happy and healthy i have nothing to worry about, its probly just because he is so energetic!

Thankyou for all your responses:hugs: . I feel very relieved that her weight gain is normal and nothing to worry about. It's just nice to know that its not just happening to me.

Eliza did the same she dropped from 50 percentile to 10 at her 8 month check up But then 6 months later she has climbed back up to the 50 percentile. I think it may have to do with them starting to move around more

ben has always been a slow weight gainer (something he doesnt get from his mum lol )
health nurse was worried to start with so sujested i start him on solids at 3 1/2 mth but even that didnt make any difference
ben is now 13 mths old and weighs 8.7 kg but as some of the mums on her could tell you there is nothing wrong with his appitite he just doesnt stop eating and still has 5-6 boob feeds a day
as long as bubs is happy i wouldnt worry
ben eats more than some bubz that are cubbas but i know hes healthy so it doesnt bother me anymore

I've heard before that those charts we all have in our yellow/blue books are very, very out of date and that there is a movement towards getting them revised as they based on the growth of a fully formula fed baby that recieves more calories then those that are breastfed (yet breastfeeding should never be related to poor growth because of this - of course- we all know that!). So I really wouldn't worry about what those old charts say. She sounds so healthy, you've obviously done a wonderful job :yelclap:

yes, as pookiesossige says, the charts we have in our books are out of date and based on bottle fed babies. It has been only just recently been revised by WHO (you can get it off their website). It acknowledges babies are now taller and lighter than before.
When babies start moving around and developing so much their weight gain plataeus (sp?).
DON'T let your dr or MCHN freak you out! Everytime I visit my MCHN there's something I'm not doing right. It's amazing how quickly and easily people in authority can erode your confidence. I hate it!
As long as your baby is happy and looks healthy and is developing nicely, I wouldn't worry!
