Is this bad to put on babies chests? My daughter is 3 month old (corrected) today and was wondering if it can b harmfull to rub in on her chest. The chemist said to put it on a flannel next to her bed but this doesnt seem to be working...

It is very mild, I have used it on DD since she was 10 weeks old, another idea is to put it on the souls of there feet or rub some on there back.
I have never had a problem with it.

Ditto the feet - I smother my son's feet with it and then pop socks on.

Hey Shell, we have been using it on Blake's chest from about 1 month old. Earlier than it says i know but it never hurt him. After his night bath we just rub a small amount on to his chest. Worked a treat for us.

If you're really worried.. put in on her singlet. That way she'll still breathe it in etc but it'll reduce the risk of it irritating her skin. My DS Jake suffered with eczema so I was always a bit paranoid of putting products onto his skin directly.. so putting it on his singlet always helped.

Grab yourself some Euky Bear Rub from the pharmacy if you're worried- it's gentler and for babies before they are old enough Vick's stuff. It's more like a gentle cream and so nice to rub in- my DS loves me putting it on and it's not so full-on like the Vicks.

I put it on a singlet or a cloth in between singlet and jammies.

The reason that they don't recommend you apply this to the chest anymore is because the gel will drop the core temperature of the user over time (much like sweat draws out the heat, catches the cool air and cools down the body). Chest (heart) is where the heat (blood) is, so not an ideal effect on a little baby who cant regulate own temperature very well anyway.

I sometimes put some into a folded tissue and place it under the singlet. I find this works well too.

I never liked the idea of putting it directly on his chest, so I put it on bub's singlet and the collar of his grosuit and it works a treat.

If you're really worried.. put in on her singlet.

What a great idea! I never thought of that!

I used to put it on a tissue then place it inbetween the singlet and jumpsuit. DS gets eczema and sensitive skini didn't want it affect those.:)

what do you use Vick Baby Balm for? is it like the adults vicks that you use when you have congestion? or is it just used on babies to make them feel nice and relaxed?

I have been using baby balsam on my daughter the last couple of days now that she has a runny nose. I also bought one of those plug in vicks vapour things. It is great her room smells so nice and it even helps my nose when I walk in there to check on her at night before I go to bed.
