My daughter has never been a big milk drinker, but lately I have noticed she is only drinking UP TO 300ml a day on average, usually she will only have around 250ml ALL DAY...She used to drink up to 600ml a day... Iam not sure what happened??? She is 8 1/2 months old and is on Nan HA 1. I have not moved her up to the follow on because I have been told it may constipate her. She gets constipated very easily so I have to be weary of what I give her to eat. She eats anywhere between 2-3 meals a day now and is a very good eater. She is just not drinking enough milk for my liking...and water, she won't have a bar of! I'm so scared she is going to get dehydrated.... what do i do? how can i encourage her to drink more milk and start drinking water? I have even bought sippy cups with the hopes that because it's something new she may want to drink water out of it, but NOPE! she is stubborn lol
Also...on average.....how much milk is a 8/9 month old supposed to be drinking a day?

When my DD2 was about the same age she was only having one 180ml bottle of formula at night before bedtime. I was giving her cows milk on her cereal and she was eating 3 meals a day with snacks in the middle (yoghurt, fruit etc). I made sure she was getting plenty of good foods (lots of vegies - she loves them  ) with lots of vitamins and minerals and plenty of calcium rich foods like cheese and yoghurt. I made sure she had plenty of small serves of meat (usually with lunch) so she was getting enough iron and proteins (she liked eggs too).
She is fine!!
They will only eat and drink what they need so as long as you give her the option of having water or formula to drink, you are doing the right thing. Remember too, it is winter so she may not be that thirsty. Our bodies generally don't use as much fluid in the colder months so we don't crave as much to drink.
jess was on gold nan ha 1 and dropped her feeds too. as long as she drinks up to 500ml of milk and water all day it should keep her hydrated. Jess only drinks 280ml of milk and now

The thing is, she is not drinking 500ml a day of anything! She drinks about 250-300ml of milk a day and no water......I don't know how I can get atleast 500ml into her, she just wont take it!
I know exactly what you'e going through. My son is 11 mths and for the past couple of months he's only been having 110mls in the morning and the same at night. He has little sips of water with his solids at lunch and dinner but that's about it. I've also been worrying about his lack of fluid intake and the CHN nurses just say "keep trying". Easy for them to say!
Therefore, I give him weetbix with cows milk for breakfast and a yogurt each day and cheese sticks to nibble on and custards at night before bedtime. I also try to give him 'watery' fruits such as kiwi's and pears. It's the only way I know he's getting enough fluids as well as vitamins and minerals. Someone suggested putting him onto the Toddler formulas as the taste is better and they are loaded with extra nutrition. Have to check with the CHN on that one. I'm hoping with the onset of the warmer months he'll take to water a lot more!!
Hope this helps.

another suggestion is maybe try to give her a bottle with a straw in it with her milk. you will be surprised Jessica never drank water and then one day we decided to try a cup with water and  she sipped out of the straw and drank the whole cup of water. i have tried milk, juice etc.... and she drinks it

I am going to go searching for a good sippy cup with a straw....can anyone suggest a good brand to try?
i just bought a cheap target brand cup with a bendy straw. i'm going out tonight to buy Jess another one I will tell you the brand once i do so. i sometimes buy the tomme tippee but the cheapo brands are good enough
