View Full Version : Medication & BF - Urgent!
Is it better to take medication right before a breastfeed or right after it?
I need to take medication that is safe while breastfeeding, but I want there to be a low concentration.
Help!

Hi. I dont know for sure but it sounds logical that if you take it right before or after a feed that its not going to be absorbed into your system for that feed but it will be for the next. I wouldn't think it makes much difference. Might be wrong - thats just my logic.
I would think that it would be better to take it right before a bf, as it usually takes things around half hour to be absorbed into the milk.

I think you would need to know if it is a water soluble med or a fat soluble. Water soluble will leave your system relatively quickly but a fat soluble med will be stored (usually in the brain) for some time, depending on what it is. Can you google this?
Thanks for your help
