Can someone please explain just what hypnobirthing is?

I am interested in this but just don't quite know what it entails?

Links to any good websites would be appreciated also?

Thanks :)

I dont have any information about it or anything, I hope someone can point you in the right direction.

But i can say my mum did this with her labour with me. I was the third bub and the biggest bub (nearly 4 kilos) and she had a nearly 48 hour labour - it was apparently very stop-start-stop-start.

However, she'd practised self-hyponises and I suppose like positive thinking, I dont really know HOW she did it, but she had a drug free labour, and she did say she panicked and changed her mind at the last moment and demanded the gas, but they told her no, and to PUSH and I arrived into the world several pushes later. So, she was perfectly fine with the labour until literally the last MINUTE.

And she said of her 3 deliveries, mine was the most comfortable and positive. Which is nice to know.

I had a wonderful hypnobirthing experience and got my information and training through http://www.alabouroflove.com.au/hypnosisforbirth.htm

Hypnobirthing is about learning how to birth naturally (understanding the body and what it is made to do and how it does it) which allows you to feel confident that you can do it with FEAR.

Fear causes tension in the body (including the release of adrenalin and other hormones) which can cause the body and muscles to tighten up and slow down the birthing procedure.

Through using hypnobirthing (which is a form of meditation) I remained calm and relax throughout the first section of birth which started at 4am and went until 10.30am. This was done at home.
I went to the hospital at 10.30am and gave birth at 12.52pm.

Some people say that hypnobirthing can remove the pain, for me this wasn't the case, it still bloody hurt, but I was able to control my feelings, allow me not to get frustrated and go with what my body was doing naturally.

If you want to know anything else- feel free to PM me.

I did Calm birthing and birthed my first boy Noah drug free without tearing or any other complications. It's like Melandben said, it's a;;l about changing your mindset and beleiving that your body can do what's it's born to do without intervention. It's especially based on breathing techniques...in and out through your nose...at different rates.
Birthing was still painful, but I was able to stay on top of that pain and stay positive and let my body do it's thing!
I'd def. do Calmbirthing again. I have a mate who is a practictioner, but would depend where you live (She's near Sydney).
