View Full Version : Extremely dry skin!!
My 5 1/2 month old bub has extremely dry skin and it looks red and flaky. I don't think it is eczema as it's not itchy.
I've tried:
- Sorbolene
- Hamilton's body lotion
- Grame's Natural Alternative bath oil
- Vaseline
Someone mentioned glyserine but I'm not sure - anyone else got any suggestions?
DS has it too. Actually was getting very bad with his itching.. started to bleed around the knees.
I used Dermeze (made up by Royal Children's Hospital.. it was recommended for my DD with her eczema but never used it).
I've massaged it in every couple of nappy changes and by the end of the day, he was much softer.
Couple days later, good as new.
You can buy them from the chemist. They come in big white tubs.
Ahhh yes thanks Lut!
I've got Dermeze - used it for myself when I had dry skin on my face except it made my face really itchy! grrr!!
Will try it on her though - thanks again! :)

Hi bigglet :)
Ask your chemist if they have any lotion with urea in it. I have one but bought it overseas. My dermatologist told me that lotion with Urea is very good for very dry skin.
BTW your baby is so cute!

Hi - it probably looks worse than it actually is.
I use a little bit of olive oil on DS2's dry scaly patches. It seems to help. Good luck.:fingerscrossed:
awwwww thanks almond eyes!! :D Your bub is beautiful too!!
Thanks for the tip re- Urea. I have dry skin as well so hopefully it will help me too.
gidgeroo - you're probably right because it doesn't seem to bother bubs one bit but babies are supposed to have lovely soft skin right? And mine feels more sandpapery... :p

Is the skin broken? When I have had dry flaky skin myself I have rubbed Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment into it and it helped. I don't imagine it should be rubbed into broken skin though.
