Hi

we arrived in Brisbane a couple of months ago, and we are renting a house until we decide where we want to live.
we were thinking about the west side of town, but now dh is thinking he would like to live next to the sea.. As he works south west of the city, he reckons redland shire to be worth a look.

So, wondering what any mums and bubs who live there think of it. What are the schools and childcare like? Plenty for familiies to do? and if I do ever get back to work, whats the commuting like?

he may well change his mind again, but thought i would ask! :D

hi,
we have now lived in capalaba for 5 years. it is very central to the major shopping centres down this way and easily accessible to mt gravatt, the pacific and logan motorways, loganholme and the city bypass off logan rd etc. I would say if your dh is working south west the logan motorway would be the quickest way to get there. it takes my dh 30 minutes to drive to work in wacol (south west).

kid wise - we have a pcyc one street away from home so go to active kids for $6 a week for a one hour session.
there is a kindermusik program run in a couple of the suburbs.
two playcentres (playland at cleveland and dinos play cafe victoria pt)
close to the water (sand and walking paths) and parks
a couple of bush walking areas
cleveland and chandler markets good for weekend outings
library sessions etc

if you want to know about any specific i might be able to help so just pm me. hope this helps though

everything is accessible and we enjoy living in the redlands and don't really have to venture into brisbane suburbs for anything really, as we have it all down this way.

i should also add that there are plenty of schools to choose from, a lot of catholic, independent and state. the state schools are a little bit rough down this way, although I have heard that hilliards creeks primary on vienna rd alex hills is really good. childcare wouldn't really know as i don't send my kids there, but next doors kids go to A1 kids and apparently she is really happy with it, there are plenty to choose from though, we have 7 just in the surroundings streets of capalaba and alex hills and that's not even half of them.
