Just in the last few days all my hemp nappies and PUL covers started smelling bad - really strong urine smell. So I've done a strip wash and this seems to have got rid of the smell from the nappies but the PUL covers still smell awful! So bad I can't use them :crying:

What can I do to get the smell out of the covers without ruining them? I know you're not supposed to use vinegar with PUL but I gave it a try anyway (I figured I've got nothing to lose!) but it didn't work.

HELP!!!!

Have you tried using Canestan liquid wash? I used it on my itti's when they all got smelly during the winter months and it got rid of the smell. You can can get it in the washing powder section of the supermarket. Over the winter months when my nappies weren't getting much sun I used the canestan every couple of weeks to keep the smell at bay. It doesn't harm the nappies at all.

Goodluck.

Thanks for the Canestan suggestion, unfortunately it didn't work.

But, after some digging around on the internet, I found something that does work - dishwashing liquid! I washed the covers in a bucket with warm water and dishwashing liquid, then rinsed them over and over until no more suds came out. And now they don't smell. Hooray! :yelclap:

Well Done! :yelclap:

I had forgotten that I used dishwashing liquid when I did a strip wash on my night nappies.
