View Full Version : Gay friendly fertility centre - Brisbane/Gold Coast
Hey guys
The time has come! We are ready to start taking the first few steps. I can't express how excited I am, but I'm also very nervous.
We're going on a cruise in June, so we're going to wait to start TTC until we get back (sea sickness + morning sickness = EWW!), but we want to get a feel for the process asap.
So with that in mind, we were wondering if anyone can recommend a gay friendly fertility centre near Brisbane or the Gold Coast (we live in Ormeau, about half way between them).
We're going to start tracking my BBT etc before we have the appointment, so that we can be as informed as possible.
We're pretty set on IUI at home using sperm from an unknown donor, so any advice or info on timeframes, etc, would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!! :D

Congrats on making the decision to start a family.
My DP and I have used Gold Coast fertility at Pindara Hospital. They have been nothing but supportive and very Gay friendly.
Good idea to start tracking your BBT for a few months prior to starting.
The only thing is that as far as I am aware you can not do home insemination with unknown donor sperm!!! All IUI's are done in the clinic, then, there(clinic) policy is that you can do 3 IUI's then move on to IVF, due to using unknown donor sperm. Thats is what we had to do anyway, it might have changed but I doubt it.
The Nursing Unit Manager is lovely and always available for a chat.
My FS was Dr Michael Flynn, very lovely man who used to come in on his days off fro my treatment, but also very honest.
If you are looking at starting around June it may be a good idea to give them a ring and have all your blood tests and 1st consult with FS and nurses before then. It can take a while, and then you will be ready when you get back from your cruise.
I am happy for you to ask any questions that may help you achieve the dream of having your own little rainbow family.

Hey
I would advise if you are planning on starting when you get back from your cruise to ring now and book an appt. Some places can take a few months to get in. Even if you have your initial appt before you go because the first appt is really just discussing with you your options, costs and telling you about the donor sperm options. Plus you need to have counselling sessions too before using donor sperm and different states require that you have either 1 or 2 counselling sessions before your treatment cycle. So after you get back from your cruise you will be able to start inseminations straight away if you choose.
Hey,
Thanks so much for your replies - you've both been really helpful!
We are going to give the gold coast fertility group a call and arrange our first appointment. I'm starting to chart ovulation and BBT tomorrow. It's all happening - it's so exciting!!
Thanks again.
