Hi all.

I have a serious question to put forward regarding the use of the morning after pill - if anyone can offer some advice that'd be great.

Hubby and I have planned all 3 of our kids and our youngest is nearly 9 months old. We've been really careful between each child with using protection, but I'm not on the pill because we're still planning on having a 4th baby - but not just yet.
We had a little slip last night and didn't use anything, then this morning I checked my date and I was on day 16 of my cycle (starting from the first day of my period). Also, I've been cramping for 2-3 days and I usually know that it is caused by ovulation. I've taked to hubby about it and he's not too fussed about it, whatever will be will be, I think were his words!

But I'm not convinced as we both decided to wait until Immy is 12 months before trying again.
I guess my question is, should we risk it and see what happens? Or should I go and get the morning after pill? I've never taken it before, but I read somewhere that it's available over the counter now?

Please no judgements, it was our slip and we know it and I'd be over the moon to have a 4th baby, but like I said, not just now. Any thoughts?

It's really up to you... What is your gut telling you to do?

I think I can safely say the morning after pill works fine, the only reason I can say is because I've only used it once and hey, wasn't pregnant.
If you do decide to get it, you have 72 hours after sex for it to be affective.

Otherwise, the other choice is let fate handle it. If I was religious I'd say it was in gods hands and his choice (pick whichever works for you).

Either way, goodluck in your choice because it will be the right one for you whatever it is.

I think if your not ready for a 4th then go get the pill. We all slip up hun...we slipped up when Ds was 5wks old...we not have 3kids instead of our plan as 2....but wouldnt change it for the world.
Although i was on the pill but it hadnt worked.

I think if you're not ready now, then get the morning after pill. Maybe do a pros and cons list on whether you should risk it or if you should wait?

I'm pretty sure the morning after pill is available over the counter, and I've heard that it can make u feel pretty nauseous too.

Good luck with everything hun :)

Yes, you can buy the MAP over the counter. It ranges in price, but shouldn't be more than $30. You will need to give the pharmacist your name, address etc though for it to be labelled.

If you are aware of your specific ovulation times and you think this time is now, then you have 72 hours to take the MAP for it to be effective. I am in no way saying that it will guarantee the desired result for you.

Its the old saying, do what is right for YOU and YOUR family.

Ive had a slip up too & chose to use it but i think as everyone has said here it is up to you & if you feel its right then make your choice accordingly.
It can make you very sick for me i felt & a little off for 2days but otherwise i was fine. If you do vomit after taking either tablet ( its 2 pills ) you will have to go back for another course to make sure.
Hope all goes well with whatever your decision may be :hugs:

Do you know what day you normally ovulate? For example if you have a 'normal' 28 day cycle and you ovulate on day 14 by day 16 there is pretty much no chance of fertilisation.

However if you are that concerned and are not ready for another one get the MAP and be a little more careful in future.

Good luck :hugs:

Yup, usually either day 7, day 14 or anywhere in between! :D 2 of my daughters were conceived on day 7 of my cycle and the other on day 14 (ish). I cramp really bad and there's one pain inparticular I've always just associated with my body ovulating - and that was yesterday (so according to the calendar - day 16).

I thought that if hubby was so stressed about it, he'd have hired a taxi to bring me the MAP by now! I'll have another chat to DH during the day, but I'm *surprisingly* not all that stressed about it - I usually calculate everything - that's why all our other kids were planned. But if it's mean't to be then maybe we'll get ourselves a boy this time!!!

Well I have a lot to think about. Thanks so much everyone for all your support and info - glad to know I have a 72 hour window so I have plenty of time to think about it now. Also, I didn't know that the MAP could make you sick? And throw your cycle out of wack? If so, this might be enough to sway me to take this risk, because if we do plan another baby it will be in 3 months anyway and my cycle is like clockwork at the moment!
Hugs to all! :hugs:
