Since Wednesday night my son has been running temperatures (up to 39.4) when his Panadol 'wears' off. He was more irritable yesterday as to be expected and he just had a day of cuddles when he needed them. He ate reasonably well and kept his fluids up.
We saw a doctor yesterday who thinks its viral and recommended panadol, rest and tepid baths. We were fine with that prognosis but when we got home he kept touching his belly around his navel area and was up from 12 last night and hasnt slept. ( He did his daily poo yesterday so he is not constipated)
Today he is a mess as soon as you look at him. What I would like to know your opinon on is wether he would just be knackered and needs a sleep or you think he needs to go back to the doctor. His last lot of panadol wore off 3 ours ago and his temp has only risen slightly.
Sorry for the essay- 3 hours of sleep wasnt enough:laughing:
Thankyou:flowerz:
I'd probably take him to see another Dr and just see if they have the same diagnosis. Giving them all his symptoms of course. Just for peace of mind if nothing else.
Poor little munchkin. I hope he feels better soon.
Does he have a runny nose or/and cough?

How old is your son?
What does your gut tell you?
(I only ask because my daughter was CONSTANTLY without a break being diagnosed with virus after virus and I just felt it was something more - after me pushing the issue we've found out she has kidney problems and might need surgery...)

Ok how old ur son...
I personally give panadol say at 8am then nurofen at 11am then panadol at 2pm then nurofen at 7pm it breaks the doses up and keeps the temps down and doesnt make them sleepy.. and panadol is 6hr n nuroefen is 8hrs. just a idea.
You said his tummy is sore.. So i would see if his temps stay down with the panadol n if still high tomoz then i would either go back to dr or ur ed... I usually give bout 3 days of temps before stressing coz then i know it isnt viral n is prob more a infection n needs antibiotics... Hope somewhere in there helped...

With what Beato said (and this is certainly not at all having a go at you Beato)
3 Gp's I have seen have suggested against the panadol/nurofen combined... they have said it makes not much of a difference and has the potential to be harmful for babies... Particularly a small baby...
Trust me though, I know how you feel - this was my life for about 4 months... and Beato, pleasssssse don't think I'm being nasty, I'm not - I used to think the panadol/nurofen thing was a goer too, until the GP recommended against it!

I would be getting a second opinion from a different doctor...
If you think something is wrong there most likely is..........
Good luck....

Thats cool pixielocks, I think it depends on each to their own personally I try to avoid panadol n use nurofen as I find it works better on my kids... Yea some DRs have said the same to me, but I was told by our Dr who does my sons treatment as he has lots of other issues that is fine and I think phsycologically if I think it helps him with pain n isnt harmful then so b it if u get me lol.... Just for peace of mind as a mum... But back to OP i think yea if ur not sure then mayb go to ed n get seen there or take him to antoher gp.. I just kno it might b hard to see another gp these days that why im only suggesting ed but how old is ur boy..

Personally, I'd be not giving panadol for fever alone (only for pain). Fevers help the body combat illness, and by giving panadol to lower the fever, you're effectively stunting the body's immune system response. If there's pain, obviously that changes and panadol needs to be given to alleviate the pain.

Yeah Beato I agree! We're the opposite, we can't use Nurofen on DD because of her kidney problems, but I like Nurofen better - it works better for her!
I'm just thinking from memory of a birth announcement thing I think OP's baby is a new one? hrmmmmm
But OP, I really can't urge you enough to keep looking for the answer if you don't think this is whats wrong with him... Its what I did even though everybody told me I was overreacting, and now, it could be that it saves my daughters life.... If you do go to ED, Keep pushing until you get all the answers!
I have a few things that I would consider but depends on how old your bub is!

Thankyou all for your responses.
He is 22 months old. My gut feeling tells me that he is just really overtired and feels revolting.
I just spoke to a friend that I had visted Thurdsay and sounds like she has the same thing (same symptons) and she she said her throat felt like razorblades to swallow. Her doctor and my doctor said that her throat and my sons throat were red and inflammed but not badly. She said it was very painful and felt worse than what the doctor had told her.
So based on all of that- I have given him some porridge and will give him some panadol for pain and will pop him to bed soon.
Thankyou all very much for your viewpoints.

If he's that age, I'd be complimenting anything else you're doing with Olive Leaf Extract (powerful anti microbiological agent that doesn't harm gut flora) and a good probiotic like Metagenics Flora Care for Kids.
This will help support his gut flora/heath and immune system and allow him to fight the virus better and overcome it more quickly.

Ahhhh I think I have the same thing as him then!! it feels yucky :(
Just another thing (im such an Aged Care nurse) Maybe check the smell of his urine too.... if it smells a bit 'off' I'd be asking your GP for a urine test too...

Goood job Aq. I usually go with my gut instinct- it hasn't failed me yet. Although the drs have.
Ds had a rash on his side, back and tummy last night and this morning. I'm not worried though because he is still the happy, go lucky kind of kid who really 'needs' a yoghurt!
Mum knows best! :)
