I have just returned from 2 days in hospital with my little Heidi. She started to get sick on Friday just gone (fever & cough). She deteriorated over the weekend and I took her to the doctor on Monday and was told "it's a virus, give her cough elixir and panadol". I did that Monday afternoon/night and Tuesday morning.

But on Tuesday morning she had gone downhill. She fell asleep on the couch around 10am, and I noticed that she was breathing very shallow and fast. And she was sucking in at the base of her neck and tummy.

So off to the hospital for us and within an hour she was admitted, on oxygen and a drip and having x-ray & blood tests.

She has RSV (a viral infection) which has lead to viral pneumonia. Needless to say she is one sick little girl. She spent all day yesterday and overnight on oxygen and fluids, and she spent all day today just struggling through.

They have let us come home tonight under strict instructions that we are to monitor her and keep her fluids up, but they agreed with me (and I was desparate to get home) that she needed to be in her own home, they weren't doing anything care wise that I could do at home.

Anyway, just wanted to vent a bit and get it all out. I'm off to check my angel and then lay on the couch and stare at the televsion after no sleep for 24 hours

:hugs: to you!
It's so awful when they're in hospital, it's so stressful and draining...my DD had a few days in there a few months back and I hope we never have to again.
I hope your little one is on the mend now and you can get some rest :)

 Mummamoo - I came home today from an overnight hospital stay with my DD. I have to say that despite the fact I'm a nurse I found it the most stressful thing ever and my heart goes out to you.

Its exhausting, stressful and I've never felt so hopeless. I spent this afternoon at home with my DD wrapped around my neck. I hope she gets her bounce back soon.

I wish your DD a speedy recovery and you a good nights sleep

Thanks girls, for the well wishes. We had a wonderful wonderful night sleep last night, it was so sensational to be home. She is SO much brighter this morning, and I do put it down to being in her own environment.

She is eating this morning, keeping her fluids up and is actually moving around !! She is obviously still sick, coughing like a trouper, but she is on the mend.

Hooray ... and I too feel so much more refreshed after a good nights sleep !!
